what did you do to your micra today ?

i have a few bits to do.

Weld up the turbo manifold
Paint and heat wrap the manifold
Mark up the bonnet/slam panel for Aerocatches
Fit new gaskets for turbo
Finish making the SR20DET fuel rail fit
Turn up the boost
Move boost and AFR gauges
Remove sump and fit new gaskets and reseal
Remove the side exit exhaust and make a new one to come out the back
Replace front seats with the Almera GTI ones i have.

I think thats it :)

You,re just clamping the bush as normal, but making sure that the 10mm bolt does,nt move about in the 12mm hole

So when grinding them in (cause the bushes are wider) ive gotta make it still a pretty tight fit then so theyre tight to clamp onto...
might try drilling them out, got no pillar drill though and by hand is risky dont wanna ruin them

also i WILL finally be painting up the mounts for my strut brace in primer at least and hopefully gloss black finish too!

Well the painting never happened, got too involved with the shocks!
Took off the original and swapped the mounting rubbers onto the corsa shock for a test fit, remounting at the top i hat to use full body weight to compress the rubber enough for the top nut to start!
Grinding went fine and i used the m10 bolts previously for my strut brace to secure the bottom mounting., done up using my 85(ish) kilo bodyweight on a 100mm(ish) wrench = 85Nm (haynes reccomends 88) so the bottomm mounting is solid (i'll re-check it after a days running on monday afternoon).
Discovered that my springs actually support the car higher than the maximum shock extension so i now have preloaded springs and a lower rear ride height than before :) had to put all my tools in the boot with me to bolt the top nut haha :D.
Only issue is the corsa struts are a fine thread m10 top nut so micra nuts wont fit and i only have one nut that does! so now have one corsa strut held with m10 lower and locking m10 fine nut upper, and on the other side... stock micra strut as i cant fit the corsa one till i buy some new nuts tomorrow :p

I relocated my dials so I can now see them while driving. Just got to tidy it up a bit. And sort heating controls out cos it's bloody cold:eek:

i love the location of them dials they look like they should be there :)

yeah I agree it's the best location for them imo, worth the extra work than dash pods. just wish the wideband surround wasn't so big.

What's people thoughts about the location of the heater control panel, I was going to go for glovebox but I don't think the vent cable or loom will reach :(

make a hybrid pre-face/facelift one matt :)

This isn't good! It leaves the suspension with no ability to drop down into a hole in the road. At speed your tyres will be leaving the road at the top of every crest too. It also leaves no ability for the rear of the car to roll normally. You need to cut or swap your springs so you have some 'droop 'measured from your ride height.

aye, thats a lot of preload if its lowered the car ! we did it on a mk2 escort once, and it handled great on the oval (was megga jittery in the unsurfaced pitlane tho lol)

thats the plan at some point over winter while indoors, stock look ftw. but too much work right now. managed to push it down beneath ash tray and pluged front into loom so i can atleast turn it off n on:)

What size are the 2 that fit properly?

theyre all 52mm gauges, just that 1 surround is larger so it doesn't slot in, can mount it from behind though.

Yeah cutting the springs down is the plan, i just havent had time this weekend around modifying/fitting the shocks and other commitments. Hopefully get a coil or maybe 2 off the top sometime in the next couple of weeks. Any tips on that btw? better to remove the softer "space filler" part of the progressive springs, therefore leaving the supportive part??

Anyway, finished fitting the shocks on their own today so will put up a photo or two in a few mins when they upload.

Cheers for the heads up on the preload though :D

Right some pics...
how i supported the shocks to grind down/ how the car was supported as my dad had buried the other axle stand in the shed!

old shocks off (the top nuts dont fit them either :s think the rear end had been redone before i had a go! lucky the old nuts held while on the car though

top nut on, other side the same

BUT

so had to loosen them off and let the rubber come in a bit before fitting the caps

bottom end done up good and tight, will get some 1mm thread sleeves in the week to fit the mounting properly and stop any movement

it leveled out more after settling a bit, also once settled under load the shocks are JUST off topping out so its not too bouncy, still needs the springs cutting though as its not enough play really.

its a goer :D lets hope these newer corsa pistons dont have a thirst for oil this time
and needs must chris, and caz was,nt driving hers anyway.............and fraid so

zero smoke thank fxxx :) the c/r must be more than i calculated tho, i had to use 5th gear ffs! to check there are 4 good compressions down our hill, but it sounds very sweet considering there a 2 chainlinks removed (the tensioners hav,nt started to move yet lol)

Why fifth gear mate?

Why fifth gear mate?
the 1.0 piston one i just took out would take half a minute to turn 1 cylinder/compression in 3rd gear down our hill, and half a minute for all 4 cyl,s in 4th gear (tested this morning)
but this engine would,nt budge in 3rd or 4th gear (it just sat there lol) but it turned over nice and slowly in 5th :)

I am so lost.. all i can translate that into is.. I have no idea tbh./

Ohhh i get you :D ta for the explantation. if everything came with a normal explanation I would be a motorsport expert by now. I rekon people over complicate it keep the noobs out eh?
