Hi all. Im 17 and looking for cheaper insurance for my 1.0 k11, as you will all know, insurance for 17 year old lads is beyond a joke. I am looking for cheaper quotes as i am currently paying nearly 2 grand and while looking i got this one from AVIVA, this is without declaring alloy wheels etc. This is extortion!

Im almost 18 now and will keep looking for cheap insurance, does anyone on here know and relatively cheap companies which dont hate young drivers? and will my insurance drop down much over the next few years?
Thanks, John

Lol, I thought 4 grand for a caterham 7 was expensive. Sadly there's no way to get cheap insurance. I'll be 20 soon and I still pay around £1 per cc

I find vans and pickups cost around half as much to insure.

There's only one way that young lads can ever get cheeper insurance.

Thats to stop chucking their cars into walls, fields, through hedges, and most importantly, into other much newer and much more expensive to repair other cars.

On behalf of my former teenage self I would like to appologise :grinning:

It's terrible! Im 18 and nearly collapsed when i had quotes for the micra road car  As for crashing, there should be a system where every new driver should do some form of motorsport or be put on a skidpan to learn how to get out of tricky situations or potential crashes, maybe that would bring down costs, although i doubt it somehow

mattjo;384503As for crashing said:
As much as skills like that are good and useful to learn, but they should only be resorted to as a last effort, they should be taught to drive and not put themselves into that situation in the first place, everybody as a young new driver has done it, took risks or done something stupid, it's how we learn, but unfortunately under 25's have to pay for it.

hi there am paying just over two thousand pound when your 18 can you tell me how much they knock off

haha not much mate, im 19, 20 in 5months (god im old haha) and i pay 2k with direct line, checked how much it would be to insure with 1ncb, it only went down to 1.5k, its just a matter of gettin insurance at the right time tbh, companies do have offers, when i got my insurance, direct line where offering 12 months for the price of 9 =] which was good =]

ive just had to get insured on my 1275cc micra k11 sr, i'am 22 and got 0'ncb i had quotes upta 1700quid,, in the end went with Admiral, and with putting my aunty on it knocked around 200quid off,,- 870quid 3rdparty fire n theft, cheapest i got

I was one of those lucky ones i guess! Mines now dropped to £950 p/annum, im with LV and got a 60% new member discount which has rolled over! and now I have a 45% ncb discount. Im 18 with 1 years driving experience! <<and its fully comp!

i was £1117 last year with elephant (aged 18 no ncb less than 1 years driving)
now through chris knott this year i will be 530 :D 19, 1 ncb 1 year driving

Bud, give "Dan" a call at A-Plan insurance. He's a specialists in Japanese modified cars, i.e Skyline's etc and if he can't help you out, he will hopefully be able to point you in the right direction. His number is 0845-0711234, make sure you ask for Dan. Tell him Balloo gave you the number ;)

Also, if your mum has lots of NCB's and a safe driving history, stick her down as a driver too.

Unlike this, that's illegal if you are the only driver
Do you have a basis for this information? I think he was meaning adding your mum as a NAMED driver not the policyholder.

There shouldn't be anything wrong with this, there's nothing anywhere that says the named drivers HAVE to drive the car.

I name my flatmate, his girlfriend and my mum and it saves me about £250 with Elephant and I've never had a problem.

I am 25 and run a 1991 k-10 i only pay £211 a year for fully comp with Morethan...they have been the cheapest for me for years...ive never payed more than £500 for any insurance and ive had alsorts or cars....they did my rover 825 v6 for £375 fully comp/........so give them a try

Also recommend pass plus. My first policy was with Tesco with pass plus added. Brought it down from £1100 to £600

And where did you pluck this from? I have had a female named driver on my policies for the past ten years. Have always lowered my policy.

I just thought lying to insurance companies was illegal. If you have a named driver who never drives then that's not true.

Fair enough if it works and they'd have no way to prove otherwise.

There's nothing wrong with adding someone who's not going to drive it, as long as they concent. Better that than having the policy in someone elses name when it's your car.

Definitely try Admiral / Elephant, they offer good quotes for young drivers. Especially if you name your mum on the policy, or another 35+ adult with a clean licence!

having your mum as the main driver when in fact you are is called fronting and is illegal, if u add them as a named driver and never ever drive the car, it is not illegal. Direct Line does not seem to insure K11 micra's for 17 year olds for some reason. if u get a good quote online, ring them up and speak to them and their quote might be a bit cheaper

Thanks for all of the replies people, i think i am just going to wait till im 18 before i go quote hunting again, because the cheapest i can find is just what im paying now. Also, i have no idea how but i can get insured on a 1.3 micra for the same price as my 1.0 on comparethemarket! When i turn 18 and get some money together i think ill sell up and get a 1.3, i might as well if the insurance i the same.

I had a seicento sporting for my first car, took me freaking AGES to find insurance, eventually went on a quote with my brother paying nearly £1300!

Luke.
