The 1.3 Turbo Battle####

that was,nt a low oil or wear issue eh chris, looks like the mainshaft outer bearing race was running free inside the casing ?

Yes it is a free running issue frank, I believe that the low oil issue started the whole thing off. The gearbox was flawless, we lost oil and the noises and box feel just got worse and worse. I reckon it allowed more and more travel in the bearings then the savage launches just detonated the bearings. Driver fault hands down. But she did well to last this long.

obviously been apart before eh chris, and maybe new bearings fitted ?
and if those outer race,s are,nt a sufficient interference fit they eventually chafe away at the casing

How did you figure that? Not trying to be smart, I am just curious as the gearbox realm is new to me. The bearings on the diff were changed. Got a 30k box to put the diff in. Debating get a full bearing rebuild on it. Or checking the tolerance at least.

dunno then mate, the oil only goes half way up the shaft iirc, so unless you park on a steep hill i doubt if a leaking seal would wreck a g/box for many months

that noisy g/box i changed the other week was stripped last week for diagnosis eh, and the bearings showed confusingly very little wear  so it may be hard to decide whats best tbh

We lost a considerable amount tbh frank I was rather surprised. Maybe kick up from the gripper diff face made a difference. At high speed I can imagine it would. Plus heavy cornering will push the oil to the seal. Yeah some of the bearing faces on here were surprising healthy, despite the half a tonne of swarf.
Won't be chancing it though in the new box.

This box lasts 10k BTW with its only drive mode as abuse. No commuting. Might be good for some one to gauge for life span. However I still think she went fat earlier due to oil losses

i tried to remove my bearings chris (just tinkering really) and i gave up in the end and f'@@ked it all in the skip :) g/box building tends to be specialised, with the need for special pullers and stuff

Which is why it's so bloody expensive :(

you only need to lift the clusters slightly to fit that diff i think chris, so pretty straight forward, but you need the patience of pollyp to do a full rebuild :)

Really good to see you still going with this Chris!!

Spent way too much time on the facebook page lately (nodspeed promo) and forgotten what its all about tbh.
Will make sure I give you a shout when Im next up your way (not very often).

Ta mate. Yeah soldiering on. Found some more motivation to push the car to its next level. Will be looking to start building a few bits n bobs.

NodSpeed is fine, currently looking for 'proper jobs' though. Something with less stress and more money. It seems that andy grey (H701) is wanting to get into making parts and Im very happy for him to do so tbh.

How's life since graduation? Whats the plans for the SLX then?

Yeah, ur at the same point as me then. We haven't worked this hard to then just get a job with no security and a **** load more work. I was working on 'super' cars, classics and top end performance cars and then I though what the hell am i doing. I can work less and earn more in IT :p Enjoyment or not, we have invested lots of money in to our future, probs more than most bloody businesses. Yeah I noticed the move and the prices too a while back.

Life since graduation... amazing. I don't remember a time in the last 7 years I have been this relaxed and happy. My medical **** has disappeared, wikid misses, happy home life, I sleep in my own house every night as opposed to once every 2 weeks...I cannot describe it all with enough words to make you realise lol.

Hows things ur end? Back at ur mams? garage any tidier? built some more workspace?

The car will be a test bed essentially. Some tools need to be bought and we will go from there. The car is getting a diet, stripped even more, its going to be seriously cut back. what cars you running now btw?

kid man nicone, im telling you , you have to make it up or that fool said it come afterwards at the least with a happy meal
