Skinners Sprint Micra

Did a bit of working out on the new gearing with the larger dry wheel tyre setup, happy with the gains i should see in 3rd to 5th as the large straight on the first day of the hillclimb was hurting me a bit hopefully crack the 100mph this year:

Hiw was installation and set up?

You carnt go far wrong with the quick start guide mate :)

Soldered everything up off the car, passed throwing the bulkhead, the it's just a case of a good earth & a switch 12v supply (used the fag lighter as it no use to me)

Once it's in without the lambda hooked up turn the power on for 20 seconds (LED will double flash in this time) then turn it off. Then plug the lambda in (leave in the open air) turn the 12v back on untill the LED is fully lit... Means the lambda has warmer up... Then hold the in line button down for 30 seconds.. When you let go of the button it will calibrate to free air... Screw the lambda into the exhaust and away you go :)

Might be opening a can of worms but here we go lol :D

I know its my choice at the end of the day but i need to get my GRP bonnet sorted as im only 8 weeks away from the hillclimb...... options are either

A) Sprayed the same factory colour
B) Vinyl wrap

I know the Matt black bonnets been done alot but for around £40 to cover the bonnet & reduce the glare (the original reason they were fitted to MK1 escorts on the Safari rally) its alot more cost effective for the time being

hmmmm...................................

Bit of progress towards the air box, took apart a few Suzuki airbox rubbers mounted to the intake trumpets... These should give a good lip for the airbox to mount too... Best bit they were free :)

That looks like it works a treat  Free mods rule!! Think all my mods are gonna be free ones for a while :(

They will be a snug fit but I hope they work ok, making this airbox fit is going to be a pain in the ..... Lol

There's a few mods you can do to a CG13 on the cheap to get some more oomph bud :)

Its all good fun, rather make something than buy something anyway :D How about a CG10 :(

Matches the plastic lips perfectly so all yuu do is slip over some blue silicone and j-clip together

Its going to be made out of 1mm ally mate, hoping to make something like the NME Micras but ducted to the gap next to the rad.

I did think about tubes but 1mm ally is too thin to TIG... if this doesnt work out il have to re think it

Well everythings back on one piece :)

And the dash fits a treat, quite please with how it turned out...

Built the oil pressure up & the car fired up on the first go which is always a relief! Let everything come up to temp & all is well...
The new engine mounts are doing there job well, no engine movement at all (its all in the rest of the car instead lol)
A few tweaks with the timing & a new tax disc should see its first outing onto the road in around 4 months! Though im thinking ear defenders might be an option...
Very happy with how the revs pick up, 1/4 throttle and its up to 7k in a secound or two :)
what have you used for the new top panel mate?
what have you used for the new top panel mate?
The slam panel mate? I bought it from a rally parts guy on here but it's just a length of milled down aluminium about 4mm thick

You decided on how you gonna attach it yet mate?

Been trying to decide all day mate and I've ended up back at my original idea, the rubbers I've put around the inlet trumpets will sit in the holes in the airbox, there snug but with a bit of wd40 they should slide on ok :) I'm putting 2 steady bars onto the rocker cover as well for a bit more support.

I've still got to design the filter ducting and how to connect the two bits together, going to be a long day tomorrow

Mig has been quite easy to pick up, quite forgiving with mistakes, tig looks a bit more involved to get those neat tidy joins

I've got a MIG just never got around to trying it yet! its a gasless type so i want to convert it to gas first :) Tig joints do look awesome when done well
