:)
burning on startup ? or when booted ? fan cutting in ?
Nope start up is fine burning smell but no smoke...
Same as when I boot it no smoke just a oil burning smell.
Yes fan kicking in and thermostat working fine when I checked the other day rad gets hot from top to bottom.
The engine has done 124, 000 miles could this be time to say good bye to old piston rings and valve stems?
I really dont understand mate.

I know the car was miss treated by previous owner... it was a commuter car and he ran it out of fuel endless times and only had it serviced when it was desperate for it.

I thought as much shes had more oil changes with than she ever did with last owner...
Rad gets hot tho frank so surely thermostat is opening? Or have I missed something
Rad flows bottom to top right?

overheating even with the fan working suggests a flow issue really tho eh, restricted stat/belt or pump/blockage maybe ?
and flow into the top of the rad :)

So with my top hose getting hot I know the thermostat is working.
Water pump could be failing perhaps..?
All the belts look good with no squealing.
Easy way to check your said above buddy?

They're not that bad
Just been on the bay looking at replacement ones £23 inc postage brand new 2 year warranty? Sound good?
Also think shes due a new rad and thermostat so full coolant overhaul... still need to work out the oil problem.
Or do you think it could be burning oil because its running too hot?

Could well be.

Do the water pump first and see how you get on and go from there :)

Water pump radiator and thermostat changed for near new parts... must save jae budget haha...

So stripped her naked and got cracking!
And breaking many bolts  damn you rust...
First the rads

1378146726259.jpg

As you cant really see ill explain...
Old one had feathers in it from a black bird that decided it would just fly into me no reason for change other than mine looked knackered.
Therostat was old and opened alot more slowly than the new one even tho they were both 82c ones  so changed it anyway.
Then the damn water pump...
1378147319808.jpg

Alternator belt was a pig to get off due to the bolts being so tight shaved knuckles for me...
Finally out...

New one in :)
Really couldnt of done this without the help of @H701micra (Andy) your are a legend.
And of course @MicrAde who secretly didnt know Andy sent me the water pump from his old 1.0 :D
She lives on Ade haha

That old pump is knackered. Its not been very well looked after at all. The burnt look seems like its been run dry
At least this one will be looked after
The bloke took great delight in telling me it had never been serviced in the 4 years he owned it
Indeed it will :D

:( driving to work tonight and temp gauge climbing again then drops to normal and then climbs all over again... Think there is seriously something wrong with this little car.
My friend said could it be the gauge itself or the engine temp sensor?
Anymore ideas guys?
Ill get some wynnes engine strip tomo and give her a service.
Im all out of ideas :(

my gauge used to randomly go to max now and then (and a whack on the side would drop it back down)
so i prized the tabs on the offside connector, ok so far :)
