Hoodedreeper's Mazda Eunos PROJECT:SIDEWAYS

6069402951_26b0e54895_z_d.jpg

What do you think, Chris?
:)

Love where the car is going! My friends recently got an eunos and i'll be showing him this build :) As for the roller paint job, how hard was it to achieve a good finish like yours? Also, I saw you in your k11 while I was driving into The Fast Show (not sure if you saw me?) I would've stopped for a chat but was following a convoy and didn't see your car the rest of the day :(

Minty, were you the one driving the black K11 on ATS classics? I was parked right next to the Show & Shine

The paint job was quite easy, scotched the whole car down and masked up everything that didnt need painting. Poured the paint into the tray and just rolled it on (didnt thin it at all). I done 5-6 coats and it laid quite well. I used a fabric roller which left a texture effect (if you use a Foam roller,it comes out smooth)

MASSIVE UPDATE!
Sunday just gone (29th April) i went down to Norfolk Arena for a Drift Practice. The track was extremely wet and muddy, but it was the best and most fun i've ever had. The car performed great as always,as the addition of the bucket seat and harness certainly improved things.
Big thanks to Mark and for the photos!

Also made some Carbon Fibre door cards from 2 sheets of carbon. Made templates and cut them out with an angle grinder and dremel. Also bought some Leather Door pulls from a guy on MX5 Nutz, which finish the door off a treat!
IMG_0026-1.jpg

Also fitted some new gaitors
IMG_0037-2.jpg

I chose this route because i didnt want to drill into the carbon to use bonnet pins/hooks. This makes the boot still usable and functional as it should :)

Fitted the GV Lip today after work

Tiny Update:
Hard Top Spoiler should hopefully be fitted tomorrow or Monday depending on weather
New item arrived today, feeding my addiction....

I've been thinking about whether to cut my rear bumper or not. I've seen alot of people over at Club Roadster.net do it,but wasnt sure if it would suit my car.
So today i bit the bullet and went for it,here are the results! The edges need cleaning up abit more, and need to cut down the bumper supports
IMG_0104.jpg

IMG_0107-1.jpg

Chris... Ahm... I find the spoiler doesn't go well along with the boot lid. It looses the effect. One bends down, othe bends up. I miss the harmony here. The bumper is a 100% WIN though :)

I think I prefer the standard boot, but overall this car just keeps getting better and better. Always loved an MX-5.

New purchase....
IMG_0197.jpg

GReddy Manifold (with relief cuts)
GReddy Intake pipe
GReddy Downpipe
T70 Hyrbid Turbo (brand new never been fitted)
Intercooler
Intercooler Hard Pipes (originally imported from the US)
Blitz BOV w/ silicone pipe
Heat Shields
Jackson Racing Fuel Pressure Regulator
++ PLEASE READ ++
The T70 Turbo is from a company called XS Power (previous owner imported it from the US). Some say its a cheap chinese Turbo, but research has shown there was problems upto 2008,but NOTHING since then. The instructions included are in english,no sign of any Chinese. I keep getting told different things,so i'm gonna go on my OWN accord, and use this turbo. If it goes bang,it goes bang!
From talking to the seller (local MX5OC member, who knows what hes on about!) said he used the standard GReddy kit on his Mk1 on stock management and it drove absolutely fine!
I know if i want to turn the boost up,i'll need bigger injectors etc etc and i'll need a stand alone ECU (Megasquirt),but this will be my first turbo'd car. I'll be starting off low PSi and build up from there.
He used the kit on his car for months,so just proves nothing is wrong with doing it that way :)

Cant w8 to see this fitted!! Cant go wrong with a turbo mx5:)
I wont to get a mx5 soon got some money saved up but the misses wonts to spend it on a people carrier..
It is a ongoing debate in our house atm so will have to see who wins lol..

is the lip a urethane lip? looks good but i only have a laguna splitter on mine and it is permanently on the floor, vary lip is too deep for my car i think :(((((

is that a g wing on your roof?? i like g wing :)

T70 is a huge turbo!!! :DDD

iam keeping my 5 standard power for now because its such a challenge to do good skids but when i get it right its so awesome feeling. better than s13 haha

Painted the headlight covers in Black Stone Chip to match the Superlites
2012-05-20172905.jpg

Also stripped the blown turbo off the manifold and trial fitted the new turbo to make sure it fits ok

Also fitted a Garrett T25 to the manifold to make sure that would fit aswell (with the studs removed,it would fit proply). I know if i used a T25 i'd need a new downpipe made
546331_10151759735000311_791575310_24162698_1560023303_n.jpg

Heres the condition of the Garrett
IMG_0140.jpg

IMG_0141.jpg

The crack runs right down the housing (couldnt get a clear enough photo)
Also should be picking this up from Law on MX5 Nutz
6807024479_5af445e9d3_z.jpg

Should save the money and hassle of getting a new downpipe made to match the rest of the exhaust system :)
Just oil lines, air filter, retard the timing and it'll be ready to fit!

GV lip is indeed polyurethane, which im glad i bought cos i scrape no end of times on a daily basis. Its a Project G style hard top spoiler (copy)

Nice one thanks man, i may just stick with my laguna splitter. However iam desperate to have a gv lol. Do project g sell them all the time or just occasionally, i really want a roof wing lol

A little update
Been collecting some more stuff

I'm waiting on a Garrett T25 to arrive. Once thats here i can get the oil feed made up,and fitting can commence!

With the turbo install getting closer i thought it was time to clean the engine bay. The engine bay was still full of mud from the last drift day back in April. Heres the progress i've made so far....

Just used the 'mist' setting on my hose to wash off most of the mud (trying not to soak the electrics) and then used damp Microfibre cloths to clean it

Removed the Carbon Boot lid and re-fitted the original boot. The carbon boot went cloudy, moisture had gotten underneath the clear coat.

Photos of the boot lid when i first noticed it (it gradually got alot worse, sadly no photos)

Fitting will start any time after Monday 2nd July :)

Hmmm the cloudyness in the bootlid seems to follow the lines of where you bonded the metal frame to it, so me thinks the sealant got absorbed??? shame, I quite liked the look :) good so far, soooo much better than when you first got it.

Small update....
Got bored and re-made the MX5 on Forza 4
MX5forzaa1.jpg

ForzaMX5a2.jpg

Today me and few mates set to get started on the diff swap and the turbo fitting. Heres what it looked like for majority of the day
541899_10151886608525311_1825792163_n.jpg

Diff all swapped over:
IMG_0288.jpg

Then it was time to start fitting the turbo. Got the exhaust system and 4-2-1 off. Gave the Greddy manifold a good clean up and made sure the new studs fit. With the turbo now sitting perfect on the manifold,it was time to start on the downpipe.
For some reason the downpipe was a really awkward shape/position,so the only way to make it fit correct was to make our own. With a few cuts, tack welds and tweaking,it was almost there
IMG_0296.jpg

It may not look pretty, but before i get comments saying its now gonna flow, theres going to be weak spots etc etc. This was just to get the shape of the downpipe and it will be plated and welded proply.
The Turbo also got split ready for the housing to be rotated. Once the downpipe is done we can then get the turbo re-built and start work on the intercooler piping.

I headed down to H&S Performance this morning to get the aircon de-gassed,luckily there wasnt any gas left
smile.png
We then started work on removing the air con.
Air Con Radiator removed
2012-07-11094547.jpg

Aircon Pump Removed and smaller belt fitted
2012-07-11094603.jpg

The oil was then drained and the sump drilled and tapped ready for the return adaptor
2012-07-11111811.jpg

While it was on the ramp,it was a good opputunity to mock up the intercooler. The intercooler had side brackets which matched up exactly to the Air Con Radiator brackets. Heres the Intercooler bolted on
2012-07-11112257.jpg

The in/outlets were too close to the top and didnt give enough clearance for the pipes to come over the top of the radiator (like the Track Dog intercooler kit). So we flipped the intercooler upside down. Abit of fiddling about,we managed to mock up the inlet side (just need to buy a 90* deg elbow and a reducer).
The outlet side of the intercooler has got the pipe attached. Gonna wait till the turbo is back together before mocking up the rest of the pipe work. Probably need a joiner and possibly another elbow and it'll be done.
2012-07-11135951.jpg

As you can see,my tow hook didnt like to be used proply and bent after towing the MX down to H&S.
Next up is getting the downpipe fitted, put the turbo back together and start looking at the oil feed
IMG_0001-4.jpg

Removed the Air Con Evapourator Unit today
2012-07-15140855.jpg

Abit more space now behind the glove box now! Wideband cable and vacuum hose fed through, just need a blanking grommet
2012-07-15140909.jpg

Found this behind the glove box,can any translate? Or know what it is?

Ta daaa :).

"They're from a car place that does car valet and servicing. Kind of like a loyalty card. So each time the car goes there, the garage place marks it and takes down the mileage."

Spent another couple of hours working on the MX this afternoon.
