K11 Roll bars - Any good?

Hi all - just joined tonight. Glad to be here.

I apologise if I'm asking a question that may already have been asked & answered. I have looked around and can't see it anywhere.

My Q is: I have an oldish (93) K11. I'm a touch concerned with it's sloppy handling. I am considering fitting some anti roll bars. But, before I do, I wanted to ask somebody who had already fitted them whether they make much difference? I don't want to spend the dosh if they aren't any good.

Also, is it likely I may be able to get hold of any second hand?

Any advice you could offer will be greatly apprecieted.

thanks

Tom

If you go to a scrap yard you should be able to find them on most K11s 96 onwards, and a few pre 96, like the Super S. They were mainly fitted to the higher spec K11s, such as the Super S, SR Si.

You should be able to fit anti roll bars from both pre and facelift models with little problems!

I have a standard front one in my garage if you are interested - where are you located?
Craig

Just to add - if it is a 1l, then you can only fit the frotn roll bar.

Thanks for the response.
But how much differance will a standard one make? Should i just spend the cash and get a whiteline one?

Thanks craig.

I'm in the north west.
Where are you and how much do you want for it?

get the whiteline ones. you wont regret it. i put mine on and lost 50 miles off a tank of fuel. but the corners were fast and fun.

I'm in the SE so a bit of a way away - the std one will make a difference above nothing - but obviously not to the degree tha a whiteline will.
I was looking for a tenner.

Craig:

Thanks for the reply. I'll certainly bear your generous offer in mind. At present, I'm just trying to ascertain which is the best option for me....I'm confused!!!

Sparkie thanks for the info.

I'm not understanding how the roll bar takes 50 miles off a tank of gas. Also, in view of the fact that you say the whiteline makes a huge difference, have you done anything else to your motor? E.g. lowered it, put different wheels/tyres on? I'm not really into lowering as I'm doing this with a view to road rallying.

I'm really new to this and appreciate any guidance you can give.

Cheers

i've heard that the whiteline ones are really good (not fitted mine yet, xmas pressie), if you don't want to lower your car, then i'd go for the whiteline stuff for extra stiffness.
also you could get around fitting a new rear axle by fabricating some brackets and getting them welded on to your axle, that's the only difference, the standard brackets arn't the strongest by any means.

i think sparkie is refering to the fact that he can give his car more beans around the twisties, that's why he's lost the 50 to a tank.

Hi Tom,

If you are using the car for Road Rally's go for the Whiteline set up, but check first the rear axle and chassis to see it you have the fixings for the rear anti roll bar. If not, to fit the rear anti roll bar would require some fabrication work to the chassis for the drop links and a change of rear axle or more fabrication work to the axle. The other operation would be to just up rate the springs and dampers, if you go coilover on the front you can keep the ride height where you want it. Alot of my customers run their rally cars without anti roll bars in the forests as this helps the cars turn it, so it's not a total dead loss if you don't fit them. Have a look on our website www.humphrisoxford.co.uk under the motorsort section, we have some pictures of different suspension set ups. all can be sold seperately to spread to cost or get the set up you want. If you have any questions about rallying Micra's just give me a ring anytime.

i can also backup the whiteline parts...makes the car so much more responsive, though i will say they car was also lowered and fitted with camber bolts at the same time, but even so id say there'd be a noticable difference if you just fitted the antirollers..

id of thought the drop link mounting points would be there as standard??? but ive never checked so cant give a yay or nay and again making up the axle brackets would be dead easy, alot easier id say than changing axles over.

yeah, changing the axles can be a total nightmare, the bolts for the trailing arm bushes get siezed into the bush, i bent a 14mm thick threaded bar trying to remove one, had to cut it off in the end, damaging the bush and arm.
