hmm a new noise, CVT/drive shaft

Cars developed a new not nice sounding noise, '95 1.3 CVT. 97k miles

Sounds gearbox related, have checked carbon brushes all good and changed gearbox oil, but it remains.

Noise is relative to engine rpm could it be bearing in gearbox or something worse failing??

only when car is in a drive gear, ie D/Ds or R.

Anyone had similar or got any ideas?

I'm no expert on auto boxes but I have dispatched quite a few auto Micras with shot boxes.I called my auto box guru with one that was a nice car with a problem & he told me not to get involved.Sadly the design was not Nissans finest moment.Might be best to find some auto specialists & get their opinion on your car.Hope it turns out ok...

Thank you for your input, sorry for the super slow response.

As this was essentially a 'free car', gifted through the family, have decided just to leave it and see how it pans out. Its now a couple of months on and the noise remains, probably a little louder than before. All I've decided to do is ensure my our break down insurance is valid.

When they day comes and it does go pop, we'll see what to do. Might be a case of a 1300cc engine up for grabs which has always been serviced regular n looked after.

The possibility to convert to a manual exists, but I gather it would not be the most straight forward because you'd have to swap out engine management and relating cable looms ideally.

As fun as it is, the CVT box was always the my concern with this car, but if its free, it don't matter so much.
