whats this noise??

Hi Guys

my wife's Micra is a K11 1.3 Automatic and has developed a whirring/whining noise the pitch does change the faster you go, I suspect either the wheel bearing, drive shaft or god forbid the gearbox as it seems to be coming from the nearside, was wondering if any of you have come across this noise before and potentially what it could be.

Cheers
Johnnie

no nothing about auto boxes and what i khow about manuals you probley wright on the back of a stamp :p.............have ya tried the wheel bearing test? where ya jack that corner up where ya suspect the noise coming from ? try spinng the wheel while off the floor .......grab it top bottom side and side and give it a shake see if all feels ok and tight . no looseness no knocks or wirring

does it sound a bit like an aeroplane? The pitch increaseing and decreasing as you speed up and slow down? If so then this a fairly standard noise for a CVT auto box. I have the 1.3 auto aswell and it has always done it. test drove a rover 216 cvt and it made the same noise.

Nothing to worry about.

the second clip sounds quite close from what i can pick up, very much a whining noise, had it at garage they ruled out drive shafts, wheel bearings etc
