cg13 on carbs

if a cg13 was to be run on carbs what would the rules be on its emmisions if it was in a 1992 car before cats were needed?

i think fintting carbs to the engine would be very easy and make fitting it to a k10 stupidly simple

if you switch engines, the rules for the emissions go from the year of the engine, not the year of the car. At least so ive been informed.

a k10 powered k11 WTF?

if you want to go down that route why not throttle bodies the k11. works well with feul injection and 5th injector.

59 bhp is more than enough said:
yeah prob bout the same cost as turbocharging, prob a bit cheaper. carbs you can get a set up for naff all
thers a clear reason for that

errr TB's arent £1000 a peice you can ge tthe actuall items for £300-400
its the fact you need a stand alone to run them

i think it works the other way round, emisions are tested at the age of the car, after all how you can't really date an engine. Plus i've seen plenty of mk1/2 Escorts running Zetecs and Chevettes and Mantas with XE's on carbs and they seem fine.

i got a 2nd hand throttle body off a micra that had done 5,000 miles, for 65 pounds. and that was for the later, more expensive bosch one. anyone needing a tb for a prefacelift should keep an eye on ebay, some come up dead cheap every now n then (30 quid ish)

cheaper then a carb setup i bet

thanks for the sensiable answer mat :)

fitting carbs to the k11 lump means the wiring would be a million times more simple im sure some twin 40's would see some good power from the cg13 lump :) either that or the older shape sunny lump might work quite nicely :)

twin 40's would also sound better :D, its a conversion I’d like to do my self eventually, maybe during the summer when I’ve got my self a new daily driver.

you run the emisions test on the type of engine. but wit the new MOT computerisation it'll be up to the DVLA to let the tester know over the computer. so i suppose you'll have to let them know, OR if you know the tester im sure he'd be able to work his way round it for you.i know this cos im an MOT testers assistant and work in a garage doin all major jobs.(Abbey Services, Skewen, Swansea). And we had a MK Indy in the other day wich is a kit car and had only just been finished and just been registered and it had the 1.8 SOHC Vauxhall engine in (runs in the cavaliers. etc.). and that was tested on a non-cat based emmisions. hope that clears things up for you.
