im in a bit of a pickle...

ive stumbled across my last cars registration number on the 309GTI owners club....

now for thos who dont know, i had a 309 GTI peugeot in miami blue 3 door version.,
that i rolled into a field and totaled....

what i didnt know was that my car, in its specification, was one of only 125 EVER MADE. and i got mine for £700......

what realy makes it worse is that it was in perfect, show winning condition, was excelent to drive, very fast, turned heads....... and very unreliable.... but i just loved it.

i am thinking of selling the micra. i have spent waaaaay too much on her, and she just isnt worth it.

i just wanted to know what you lot thought of me going back to a 309 GTI (if i can find one in miami blue again im pleased as punch) or should i jut stick with the micra?.......

its breaking my heart every time i see one.. theres a few 205's on ebay for £5k+ in worse spec than my 309..

My sister has a 309 and it was in such a state. Didnt get a proper service for about 4 years. Parts of the engine bay had fallen off, yet it continued to drive surprisingly well! I've seen a 309 Gti in horsham which has been modified, it seems pretty rapid too.

You should do what you want to do. Could you afford to keep both? Imagine in 20 years time & you look back at today. Would you regret not getting the 309?
 
i had a 309 gti and i thought it was crap. it didnt handle very well and for what it was it was under powered. i wouldnt have another one give me.
 
id have a 309 over a micra any day of the week, french or not they are soooooooo nice to look at, i love the old boxy shape cars

the 309 GTI was voted (by independant motoring journalists) the best hot hatch of the last 25 years.

better handling than the 205 GTI, with more powerful engine (by 15bhp) and a larger boot/cabin area...

that car had the same power to weight ratio as the Escort RS turbo.... and you say it wasnt fast????

did you have the late 1992 model with 105bhp? or the 1991 model i had with 130bhp? cos let me tell you, a car that weighs just 800kg's with 130bhp isnt slow!!







i think i may regret not looking for a miami blue 3 Door 309 GTI.... especialy since there are more chav Saxo VTS's that i want to embarace again..haha....

and if i can find one like my last one, with full Magnex system (including a stainless 4 branch manifold...mmm) for £700, i will be very very happy...

The bushes can go on the suspension as when they do they handle like a big pile of ####, new bushes and theyre like a new car!

mine handled great..... untill i lost the back end.... in the wet....round a corner.... at night...... over a crest....after i lifted off........ at 60mph.......lol

note was voted...imo the 309 and any other french car for that matter is a load of crap. why would you rather have a 309 over a micra? you take the mick out of saxo owners etc, but yet you like a 309??? french cars are all basiclly the same car. all carp and unreliable and car hold the road! fair engough i dont mind the looks of a saxo if its modded tastfully...but there still french crap!

oh and p.s why do you keep banging on about your old 309!? and also it beening a rare one? its dead now anyways so why bang on about it, and why would you want onother one??? personally i and iam sure other will agree 309's are crap! if you want one just buy one....you may have spent alot on your micra but youll be spening more on the pug after it keeps having proplems!

....iam just speaking my mind.

Pugs hold their value well, this can't be for no reason, they obviously have somethin going for them and if you liked your old one I'd say get another one. With a car it's about personal taste not stereotypes.
 
not after this morning i wont....

had to push it about a mile after the engine broke..... a big crunch and broke...

and i know its a peugeot. and i know i have said i will never own another french car ever again...

but its the shape... the colour.... the interior.... the GTI badge..... the cornering ability.... the "non granny" stigma...lol

i am looking for one but im not hopefull..... who knows... i may even upgrade the micra engine with something special...hey craig!..lol
 
Hey i love the "granny stigma", helps once you've done an engine conversion or turbo by without its still just as funny.

He didnt say 309's arent fast, great at handling or wearnt voted best hothatch or the last 25years (depends what mag you read since ive the 205gti as voted best hothatch).
Just said its nothing special, lets behonest it isnt. The same way i look at Caterhams even though thousands idolise them, its a chassis, with wheels and an engine.
Its your own personal opinion that makes a car special to you and the way you drive, mod or keep tidy that makes it special to others.
