what did you do to your micra today ?

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1419447089.685144.jpg

Got new fog lights

Know it's no a micra but, I got a new choke cable and some anti freeze for my nova so had to run it to temp for the stat to open. Couldn't resist a wee Rev :D

was my birthday on 23rd, bought tommys dashpod out of scott.c's old micra, finally got cupholders! yeaaaaaaaaah! went and met my misses family in faringdon and wantage and her dad said didnt like micras at the start of the day and after a few youtube videos he changed his mind ;)

Heard a knock and the brakes started scraping like a c!nt...

Wheel off and saw this:

So new pads and discs

My DIY Short-Shifter packed it in on Saturday :(

So i pulled into a woodies and got a vise-grips...drove around till today with a vise-grip gear lever :p
Have it back welded now though:)
WHen i got the vise grips I used my key to break the zip ties holding it into the packet...and broke the top off the key!! New coded Key €50 :( :( :(
Wasn't my car week!!

So....I treated myself to some hydrographics :p

I tried it the first time but the backing didn't dissolve. Didnt realise i needed activator. Quick googling later and I discovered a 30% mix of xylene to 70% 2K Thinners works...got a litre of each in a local paint shop for €20...the film itself was £8 sterling on eBay. Happy out with the result, will do it to the clock surround next!
The film does have a clear background though so i had to paint the surround white, then do the film, then clear coat!

Started putting my GA16 Airbox on realising I'm missing some of the breather pipe and need to bodge some Hose on to make it work :/

Well that would probs do, but it would be more money. You can run it without a pipe for now :)
Have a look on eBay
Same price bar as the one from halfords...

If 8cm will fit, I'll just get that tomorrow. Where's the best place to have the pipe drawing from? The silver plastic inserts?

I took it to the chrome bits on the front of the bonnet, but I have cut out the middle of the drivers side grille.

Took to stripping down and examining my spare gearbox to figure out why it was so tough to change gears and refused to select 3rd. Couldn't see any visible defects so presume it's just from being exposed to the elements whilst in the scrap yard.

All seems to be working now and is reassembled ready to go for tomorrow and hopefully I can get it swapped over and have a fully working car again

with tyres like that you d make a good donor (heart lungs etc) but not brains !!!! when you slide off the road killing 23 nuns and a basket of kittens

that's like saying grab the short end of the stick.and their is never a short end.so trick question.case adjourned till 2025

Made this :-

Need to re-wire the fuel pump, so thought I would do the voltage / lambda voltage mod I have been panning in my head for ages.

Which colour wire do I tap into from the Lambda sensor to read the voltage? And what range should I see?

Have done other work over the holidays, will try and update the blog in the next few days.

Also was on TV during the Swanny goes for a spin programme on BTSport

The programme also showed us over-taking Swanny :)

Strengthened cross member and fitted sump guard mounts to rally car.

Cleared water from road car headlight and resealed.
Then did this to GA16 airbox.

What is its purpose? Anyone know?

resonator jordan (helmholtz ?)
Applications[edit]
Helmholtz resonance finds application in internal combustion engines (see airbox), subwoofers and acoustics. Intake systems described as 'Helmholtz Systems' have been used in the Chrysler V10 engine built for both the Dodge Viper and the Ram pickup truck, and several of the Buell tube-frame series of motorcycles. In stringed instruments, such as the guitar and violin, the resonance curve of the instrument has the Helmholtz resonance as one of its peaks, along with other peaks coming from resonances of the vibration of the wood. An ocarina is essentially a Helmholtz resonator where the combined area of the opened finger holes determines the note played by the instrument.[5] The West African djembe is a Helmholtz resonator with a small neck area, giving it a deep bass tone.

The theory of Helmholtz resonators is used in motorcycle and car exhausts to alter the sound of the exhaust note and for differences in power delivery by adding chambers to the exhaust. Exhaust resonators are also used to reduce potentially loud and obnoxious engine noise where the dimensions are calculated so that the waves reflected by the resonator help cancel out certain frequencies of sound in the exhaust.

In some two-stroke engines, a Helmholtz resonator is used to remove the need for a reed valve. A similar effect is also used in the exhaust system of most two-stroke engines, using a reflected pressure pulse to supercharge the cylinder (see Kadenacy effect.)

Helmholtz resonators are used in architectural acoustics to reduce undesirable low frequency sounds (standing waves, etc.) by building a resonator tuned to the problem frequency, thereby eliminating it.

Helmholtz resonators are also used to build acoustic liners for reducing the noise of aircraft engines, for example. These acoustic liners are made of two components:

  • a simple sheet of metal (or other material) perforated with little holes spaced out in a regular or irregular pattern; this is called a resistive sheet;
  • a series of so-called honeycomb cavities (holes with a honeycomb shape, but in fact only their volume matters).
Such acoustic liners are used in most of today's aircraft engines. The perforated sheet is usually visible from inside or outside the airplane; the honeycomb is just under it. The thickness of the perforated sheet is of importance, as shown above. Sometimes there are two layers of liners; they are then called "2-DOF liners" (DOF meaning Degrees Of Freedom), as opposed to "single DOF liners".

This effect might also be used to reduce skin friction drag on aircraft wings by 40%.[6]

Helmholtz resonance sometimes occurs when a slightly open single car window makes a very loud sound, also called "side window buffeting".[7]

science is so awesome. Frank you are a fountain of knowledge
