outter cv

my outter c.v. boots split and gona replace it with a standard one.i think I have to drain the gear oil
but am wondering wear do I refill it and how to check the oil level?

I have an early pre nats 1995 1.0 k11
thanks

You can fill from the speedo drive. I seem to recall that the engine oil dipstick gives a decent reading of gearbox oil level down the speedo drive hole too, but not 100% on that.

ok thanks the other thing is I don't have a torque wrench do I need one for the hub nut? is it possible to over tighten it/would it damage the bearing?

good thread,,, I have a very seized gear oil fill bung which I discovered after draining the box . 2.8 litres through the speedo :)

didn't work! no oil would go in through the speedo,, couldn't get the filler bung out for love nor money,, radiator is welded in too so couldn't get line of sight to work at it.. ended up drilling a hole in the bung and slowly filling through the breather pipe into the box and resealing with quick steel after cleaning and roughing the bung up.
