SU carbed k10

Yes i am :D ma12 head and SU :)
Now i just got to neaten up some piping and bring it outside , warm it up and tune SU before i get wideband , sounds so quite with straight pipe in comparison to standard carb

Dont know :p still have to sort out a throttle cable :p

Nope its got no throttle cable lol :p gonna get some lawnmore throttle cable , also gotta but a fuel filter broke the one i had :p and im gonna have to bring another cable for cold start

Jus do what I do, open window, with bonnet up pull choke , turn key thru window, then run round and jump I'm seat and press throttle.........simple and elegant lol

Hahahahaha :p emmm :p iv seen some funny things :p but a throttle cable made out if cable ties iv yet to see :p

Well i should get it tuned tomorrow evening if not sunday ,

But iv my first week of my apprenticeship next week and im away from home , so therell be nothing done then :(
After that iv all my evenings :)

Errrrr :/ friday night went too well to be true !!

Got home all set to start it warm it up and tune it , but it doesnt start , so the only thing i changed was fuel overflow , and iv a bad suspicion that what i thought was a fuel overflow back to tank may have been a vacuum , heres where i piped the overflow too : ( you'll see fuel inlet to carb beside it ) blue vacuum hose is the overflow from carb

Vacuum won't stop it. That is the tank return though
Thanks andy ,
Hmm , i guess im overlooking the fact if theres fuel coming from carb overflow in the first place maybe something is wrong with carb , its im pulling cold start and its atempting to start but not just firing ,

Flooded?

If its overflowing its taking in too much and not stopping the fuel flow from the pump. @enuo understands more than me tbh

Where is your pump return?

Very Possible however it was starting first turn friday , evens when i came back to cold start , and it only ran for a few seconds today and cut , so it had to have a reason to cut in the first place ?

remove air filter, start engine and allow to warm up. Lift piston with a screwdriver about 2mm. If it boggs down mixture is too lean. If revs rise instantly is too rich. If revs rise after about a second is about right. Pretty sure thats how I read how to set HS carbs, dunno if HIF are different.

Yeah iv watched video's so i know how to tune it , just got to get it to starting, ran for 4/5 seconds today and that was it ,

Andy sounds right though , probably overfueled ( my bad i reakon ) then flooded so i couldnt start it , ill take another burst at it tomorrow , have to charge the battery now ha ! Thanks lads !

So had it running for ten mins and was just about to atart tuning it and i got sidetracked and had to turn it off and leave it there , went back to it five mins ago and went to start it and overfueled it again , but leasson learned i know what im doing now ,

Errrr its grand to start when its cold but its a pig to start when its warm !!! Hopefully tuning will iron that issue out , my cousin said because of the bigger carb i may have to advance ignition slightly to get it to burn off fuel, and that that may be way im getting it hard to start it if its overfueling like it is

Make sure fuel lines aren't getting to hot, I had to heat insulate my fuel lines as the engine bay got quite warm, and from hot on some days it would be a pig to start... wasuch better after. Won't be such an issue for you though as your exhaust manifold and carbs aren't on the same engine side :)

I will look into that thanks , i noticed the carb and manifold were near freezing , very cold ,
As it is now it is running much nicer than it was ,

Unfortunatly for the car i cant touch it till next weekend as im starting my apprenticeship tomorrow , have an induction corse first ,

One thing about neil is he wraps every thing very good damn good :p i spent ten mins unwrapping it but must say once i spray it its perfect :

Something im looking for advice in ,
If i were to take flywheel and crankshaft out of my spare ma10 , and lighten the flywheel myself , and send crankshaft and flywheel off to someone who has machinery to balance it , would that do ? Or would i have to take crankshaft out of the engine the flywheel would be going into ?
Frank ?
Andy ?

I had no bubble wrap lol !!!

Thought it'll be traveling a few miles and know how bad they treat things, apart from the fade, it's perfect!!

Hope you like it

You will be able to lighten your spare flywheel and crank and fit them into your current engine :)

Just use new bearings/shells so the crank can seat itself :)

Oopps hadnt though of swapping crankshafts :p

Any simple ideas for making a balancer ? They all look very complicated but i thought it cant be too sifisticated ? I could be very wrong ,
If i could make one i would in time , if not ill lightenen it myself and pay someone to balance it ,

Balancing machine are very clever bits of kit. I'd send it to have it done. My crank and flywheel cost £120 to lighten and balance

Thats what ill do ,
I just got a notion i wanted to make one , must be because of my dream to start up a bit an engine shop , Maybe oneday ! :)
