McLaren F1 why? not the fastest, not the best looking not anything!! or is it just one of these things that you just alway's loved and whanted

Because the thread is "Your dream car" not fastest, best looking etc. IMO it is a gorgeous car. And the technology in it amazing.

You trying to say this is not a sexual car. :p
mclarenf1_2_1024.jpg

Considering it was made in 1993 and is a 13 year old car it still had a top speed of 241mph. The bugatti which has 350bhp can only manage 11mph faster

PS - The Bugatti is ugly as sin :p

ok very very nice and i see why you love it but i love this car!!!
we will have to agree to disagree!!!

On the subject of dream cars, was speaking to Chrissy earlier and he seen a Mclaren SLR At the local Bentley Garage, said it sounded great, hes going to head over tomorrow to see if its still there and get some pics.

5 brand new ones floting around toyota built 5 brand new AE86's for the filming of initial-d the motion picture so someones got one!

i heard a rumour that toyota had built some new ones. Toyota where also pestered into putting them back into production a couple of years ago because people wanted them. So maybe if the demand for them grows one day we might see a AE86 coming back out of the toyota factory but built up todays standards.

Initail D the live action movie is released in UK cinemas at the end of the month according to Jtuner.

current model Mini Cooper S would do me fine.

But for now my little Micra is keeping me quite happy (for the record, my mid 96 aussie-delivered super s is the equivalent of your mid-96 SR :))

Ferrari F355 or F430. I would drive through tunnels all day long listening to that sound!!

That is one ugly car... even tho it has all that power... it weighs the same as a house and uses more fuel then a jet.... lol pointless

Hell yea i want 1 of those.... but still the Viper is soo soo sweeeettt. P.s HAPPY BIRTHDAY 2 ME. Tra la la la la la

are you sure its the not the same as our super s? The SR has an airbag and 6 speakers in it. Plus a wierdly funky interior.

Mk1 escort RS1600

Lamboughini Miura

Shelby Cobra 427

TA23 1600GT Celica Coupe

to name but a few....could go on for ages...... :grinning:

As far as modern supercars go it'd have to be the pagani zonda. As good as the veyron is it ain't pretty!

Having driven a Ferrari 355 yesterday i'd have to have one of those... or something similar.

Heavy gearbox however, not a good town car i'd imagine.

1969 Dodge Charger new suspension/brakes etc - black

Pug 205 T16 built to evo 2 spec - bright red

Lancia Stratos (replica built by Hawk with Autodelta 3.7 engine) - lime green

Skyline R32 GTR with a bzillion mods - midnight purple

sorry guys laugh all you want.. i want a Renault Espace F1 with 700 BHP 3.5 V10 and some sort of racing truck a mack or a merc. :D

Hey guys,

i would need to go for either a 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am or a 1967 Shelby Mustang GT-500 (i.e. Eleanor). Both cars have a true history and are big American muscle cars!

Eleanor isnt a proper 1967 shelby gt500 though. it was built by a company called unique performance http://www.uniqueperformance.com/ and its called a super snake. awsome car thought. tbh though an original gt500 wasnt the best looking mustang. the 70' boss 302 was easily the best looking mustang. or the bullit edition. my dad used to have a 77 trans am when i was little. it was mettalic blue with a dark blue phoenix on the bonnet. that vinyl phoenix was 500 quid from america and that was like 10 years ago. can still remember the bonnet scoop that had 6.6 litre on it, used to shake like mad when i floored the engine. but then again the whole car did

Mclaren F1... simply because untill the veyron..... 13 years later, it held these records...

0-100-0 record 11 seconds
0-60 mph record 3.2 seconds
241MPH top speed
Most expensive Road car ever produced
Still the only car to have a fully titanium exhaust and cast magnesium wheels
the only car ever to have three seats, on in the centre
Was faster than some of the F1 cars of its time, arround a track,
had a Gold lined engine bay........enough said
had a titanium tool kit,
more boot space than a fiesta,
Modem in the door for contacting Woking to find out if theres a problem,
Full 5.1 dolby sorround sound and kenwood 10 disk miltichanger,
No traction controll, (for sissies) no power steering, (didnt need it, it only weighed 1100kg's) no ABS (again for feel) had an under floor Fan to act as "ground effect"

and is still....to this day..... the only car to be banned from competing at, Bathurst, Le-mans, FIA GT and LMA..... for simply being too fast.

thats why i would have the mclaren F1.

and it would go arround a track a damned sight faster than any car..... even with todays cars... i mean the veyron is just tooo bleedin heavy..... you try and go arround a corner in that tank.... ok so its got 1001 BHP thats a whole ferrari 360 more than the mclarens 627BHP but it still manages to be slower to 60 and have just a 11 mph higher top speed...

psssst.....did you know its just a Bently hundaires is desguise......and its made by volkswagen....pssst

I gotta go with the Ferrari F40 or F50, Aston Martin DB 6 or 7 or V8 Vanquish. I oce sat in the Actual DB7 James Bond car, I almost creamed my pants in that car!!! I have a soft spot for the OLD Skool Minis, new ones are NOT minis!!!

i fitted a baby seat in a DB7, and nearly put a screw driver (im my pocket) through the very expensive leather seats......o_O o_O o_O o_O o_O

No offense but the Macca was not faster than F1 cars of the same age round a race track.

Likewise they weren't banned from Le Mans either.

I also believe that the 0-60 record is (or at least was) held by Tiger with their twin bike engined Z100. The Stealth B6 is also quicker over a number of marker (0-100 etc).

Any number of Radicals and the like would be quicker than the Macca round a racetrack nowadays.

Gordan Murray always said that the Macca was a road car not a track car!

The Bugatti is also much quicker acclerating than the Macca.

I'm not saying that the Macca is no good - it's a cracking car but there's always something quicker. Choosing a car just because it's the quickest at X record is fairly pointless as five minutes later someone else turns up with something faster.

I knew it wasnt a true Shleby, i only mentioned the name Eleanor to put the image in peoples mind for those who dont know what a 67' tang looks like. :)

Any chance that the Trans-Am would be back with a gold eagle on the bonnet?

Na, I prefer the opposite ala:

please let me know where you get your information from,

mine is from the Mclaren web-site...

and the LM was banned from lemans, as was the longtail GTR (from that year so was the TVR speed 12 and the mercedes CLK GTR)

0-60 time stood untill 2001.....
0-100-0 time stood untill 2004
and pleas if you want to argue with Gordon murray himself then please do so, but i can asure you that the minardi's of 1993 were not as fast around a track as the mclaren F1. they had less power and the handling was reduculous.

yes agreed the bugatti is much faster at accelerating, but only after 70+ mph.. untill that point the mclaren is faster,......when you can stop it wheelspinning.....:suspect:

Without getting all silly here's a couple of examples of fast things. I'm sure that these don't represent the ultimate but still:

Highest top speed in 1988 - http://www.fastcoolcars.com/callaway_sledgehammer.htm

0-60 in 1994 - http://www.supercars.net/cars/404.html

I suspect that the Dauer would be quicker 0-100-0 too, but I don't think that it's been figured.

I'd be very surprised if the F1 was faster than a car with the same (perhaps more) power, less weight, much more downforce and far stickier tyres....

NB The Bugatti is faster to 60 than the Maclaren too - 4WD does give it somewhat of an advantage there. Likewise the traction control, launch control, etc etc etc.

My point was really that choosing a car because it is the fastest (or whatever) is pointless. I'm more impressed by the engineering of the thing that records. I'd love to have a Lancia Stratos - in it's day it was the best rally around but nowadays it wouldn't see which a WRC went.

I've read a lot of what Gordan Murray has written in the past. He does seem to have great difficulty in accepting that ANYTHING is better than the F1 at anything. His review of the Porsche Carrera GT involved him dancing around the fact that it was a quicker car round the track. He gets tunnel vision about the strangest things - example his hatred of turbocharged engines.

Never the less he is a very good engineer and the F1 an excellent car.

Pressed post twice (I'm an impatient fool). Edited one to remove the text so I didn't look quite so stupid...

For me it would have to be the Ferrari 250 California Spyder, preferably the short wheel base (although either would do!). I think it looks absolutely timeless. A truly beautiful car.
