To weld or not to weld

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, first time post, so be gentle.

I have a half-fist sized hole in my N/S sill, and am considering whether to have it welded, or just to buy a new sill and have it fitted/painted. I'm planning on keeping it a long time, so is it just false economy having it welded repeatedly?
I've seen new sills for about 22£ on Imperial parts

Also, I can't find anywhere that sells BV4 (Intense Blue) in spray cans anymore :( Only thing I found was Halfords scratch repair kit... Do they still mix paints for you as I've read on here before?

http://www.paints4u.com/paintdoctor.aspx

Put your car, colour code etc in there and you can buy aerosols (Y)

I wouldnt recommend Halfords mixed paints, Never a right match.

thats a complete lie and total rubish.
i worked at halfords for 7 years and mixed the paint every day. if done correctly using the machine it is an exact match to the original colour. to within .05g of paint of the stock paint. your eye cant tell the difference of anything under .8g anyway.

i could colour match by eye most of the time. but to say its never a right match...... thats codswallop.

the system they use is holts bodycare who are the number 1 paint matching specialists in europe!

Woah calm down....

Everytime paint has been bought from there it has been the totally wrong colour and it is so over priced.

Might just be my local Halfords though...

I must admit the paint match at my local halfords is good, they matched china blue in both touch up and aerosol spot on, also a good match on a Renault 19 i had.

over priced?... lol,
the paint for a 300ml spray can with danvern flat spray nozle is £11.99.......... nissan charges £30 for a metalic touch up kit..:suspect:

your local halfords is either dumb or poorly trained.

Why are you getting so defensive?

Halfords paint is sh*te and over priced for what you get. My opinion, everyones entitled to one and based on previous use I personally don't recommend thmem.

And no point comparing Halfords and Nissan prices. We all know Nissans prices are too much.

im getting defensive because i know that the statement "halfords paint is sh*te and over priced for what you get" isn't an opinion.
i am getting defensive because i mixed the stuff for 7 years and frequently use it myself.
i am getting defensive because i painted my entire car with mixed paint from halfords,
i am getting defensive because after 3 years at a motorfactors specialising in paint i can safely say that the nitro-celulose paint used by halfords is safer, easier to mix, easier to apply and comes in a wider range of colours than the"carlube" style off the shelf rattle cans. and is "CHEAPER" than off the shelf cans too.

you seem to have had a bad experience with a tin of paint and are now on a one man cruisade. hell bent of proving that halfords paint mixing facilities are rubbish.
halfords have over 275 stores nation wide, all of which can mix paint.. taking your one account into consideration that makes it 0.36% of stores made a bad can on one day..

now also consider on average they mix between 2-8 cans a day. so 5 cans...
thats 0.072% of all spray cans in 1 day mixed by human hands was off..... and you consider yourself able to say that the entire halfords comapny and their years of paint mixing experience and experties from body care and Holts paints are "sh*te"??

of course i am getting defensive. where else is he going to get paint from?

(ps that was meant as a bit of a rant and me making a point, dont take it personaly... i tend to over react to stuff sometimes..lol) :wasntme::wasntme:

What have I walked into lol

And my two cents: Halfords are ok, but it does depend which branch. Mine in Nottingham is usually ok, if they have the stuff in stock.

PS The paint doctor site looks good, thanks for the tip!

May sound like a stupid question, but how far up on the Micra does the sill actually come? I'll try to attach a photo to highlight what i mean, otherwise it might be a bigger job than I had thought

The bit that goes up on the car isn't rust per say, but a bubble which I'm 99 percent sure has rust under it, from previous owner who did a bodge job.
FYI, not my car lol
