Swapping distributor

Hi there. I'm still awaiting a new crank angle sensor for my dodgy distributor through the mail and I'm thinking of getting a dizzy from the scrappy and trying it. Question is, I know the ignition timing is set by turning the distributor body when it is in place, but if I just plop a replacement in there how will I know to get it in the right place? Hit and hope? Any tips? Or am I straight to the garage to get the timing set? Ta.

you just scratch a mark martos, or measure the slots
you,re best to lift the cam cover tho, to make sure the offset driveslot has lined up ok
