my 1993 1.o has developed a strange high pitched (albeit not too loud) gurgling sound that alters in pitch both when you press the clutch in and wiggle the gearstick around in neutral. it also happens when the car is driving in all gears but less so in the higher gear range. anybody any idea what it might be please. thanks

A whining gearbox is usually a sick gearbox. Fortunately they're only cheap anyway. So drive it till it fails eh. Make sure its not the selector rod though as these can buzz and rattle through the gear knob.
