Newbie here, help needed please.

Hi all, passed my test a few months ago, and have just got myself a mk11 2002 1ltr twister 3dr. I am an absolute beginner when it comes to all things cars so please pardon my ignorance.

The car came with a hole where the stereo would be, as shown here:

Does anyone have a noob proof step-by-step guide for installing an after-market stereo?

There is also a small platic panel missing from the side of the steering wheel:

Does anyone have any idea what the missing plastic panel would be called, or a part number for it/where to buy?

Finally, the interior tray from the 'bin' (not very technical as I said) is missing:

I have the lid, which i took off in order to take the picture, it's just the insert/tray i'm after.

Cheers all for the help, muchly appreciated!

hi here is a wiring diagram for the radio

radio01.jpg

the plastic cover only covers the airbag screws
and in the rear we dont have a tray only the cover that you have
for any parts like trim go to a scrappy no point in paying dealer prices

to remove the stereo remove the ashtray and behind the front you will see 2 screws
remove these and the two above the stereo
gently pull the trim towards you take care at the top as there are some clips that hold
the panel in place
when loose remove the plug from the headlight leveling switch
the earth for the original stereo is through the casing as it is bolted to the metal frame
your ready to install your new one

Make your way in to Halfords, pick a stereo that you like, (providing you havent bought one already) then ask an assistant to show you where they stock stereo adaptor harnesses. The adaptors will plug between the back of the new stereo and the old wiring system, just make sure you buy the correct harness which should have noted on the pack which car they will fit into.

They look a bit like this:

If you bought an aftermarket stereo new, it should come with a 'cage' which should fit into the hole in the dash and help to balance and keep your stereo in the right place, if not then you might have to buy one from Halfords or a scrappy, they not expensive.

Regarding the plastic panel bit I cannot help with I'm afraid. The best thing to do is visit a few scrap yards and see if you can find a similar car, though this might be tricky. Maybe try and visit some Nissan specialists. A Dealership would be your best bet, they'll most probably stock the bit your after and it shold be expensive, then again, this is Nissan we're talking about.

Regarding the 'bin' - You said that it had the lid cover, this is probably because it never came with the 'bin' bit which is actually a rear ashtray. You cannot get just the ashtray bit, they come complete with lid which actually a bit smaller than the original lid. I'm not sure if any of the later Micras were sold with a rear ashtray (Possibly top spec GXs and and SRs were) I know they had them on earlier higher-spec K11 Micras. I managed to find for my car though the colour is a light Beige and the interior in my car is a light Grey, so there isnt too much of a contrast, though I would have liked one in a matching colour:

The light and generally crappieness of the camera doesnt help either.

As said before I'd visit some scrappies first before trying elsewhere, they are pretty hard to get though.

Thanks all for your help, It looks like a trip around a few scrap yards tomorrow for the plastic panel for me. I don't think i'll bother with the rear ashtray, as once the lid is on, it all looks neat and tidy anyway.

As for the stereo, it looks as though this is the correct harness adaptor:

So in order to fit abasic stereo like this one:
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_822089_langId_-1_categoryId_165474

I would just need to buy the stereo, and the above cable...although there might be the chance that the stereo doesn't come with a mounting bracket.

Yes, that is the correct harness adaptor. I used a generic pic of one to illustrate. You can buy them in Halfords, just check the to make sure it fit the Nissan Micra K11.

Check the box to see if there is any mention of the mounting bracket. If not, you can buy one seperately, they are not that expensive. When I bought my Sony XPlod, it came with the mounting cage.

Just so you know, this is the mounting cage you'll need:
