Kipsys k11 rally car

Hola been posting various pics so thought should start a blog.
Bought this micra from a mate a few months ago.
The car is stage/ road rally car with lots of cup parts, suspension, cage, guards, 5.1 cwp and gripper plate diff. The car goes ok and has currently got 116 bhp ( 95@wheels)

this is going to sound so daft but... awwwwwwww what a cute wee car it is :D if it was mine id cover it in love heart stickers :laugh:

seriously it looks really nice look forward to reading through you're Blog :D

Sorry for late reply. Competed in the Swansea bay rally recently and found the loose a little too power sapping for this car. Hoping to do a little more development before going back in the forests. Was going to do Wales rally gb at national level but now decided not too.

Also recently did epynt which was awesome. Handles really well, brakes awesome but not too clever on hills but all part of the fun

Another little picture of the 'beast' haha

Will hopefully be getting flywheel back today so can fit it tomorrow and see if feels any quicker or more responsive. Fingers crossed for good results. Once back and fitted I'm going to get the car re dyno'd to see if cam timing played with can give s bit more mid range.
I'm doing caerwent patriot stages next month do fingers crossed for bit more go. Caerwent is very tight and twisty with kerbs on the corners so neat driving is the key. Should suit micra!

Flywheel now fitted. Car revs much quicker on the spot (obviously) seems to be a bit keener to drive and is definitely different. will see if can get a bit more go tomorrow. Going to raise rev limit too. Going down to rollers with a mate who has a mk1 like my old car. Fond memories until I see how much fuel he uses haha

Was like that when had the car, it's the arc of the wipers. Also im taller than previous owner so can see through it when going through a compression or up a hill etc.

Went to dyno today.
First run made max power of 111 bhp.
Second run with new plugs, took off dizzy and upped rev limited, made 116
Third run, adjusted cam timing which was a bit out. Both cams needed tweaking, had a quick run up to 7k rpm. Was going to do another run to record power 500 rpm per time and the car started misfiring heavily under full load. Checked cam timing, fine, checked dizzy temperary mod- fine, car misfires heavily under any load now. Had to leave it at the rollers. Would rev up fine at say 25% throttle but any more and would say that it sounded like it was hitting a rev limiter. Checked fuel pressure. That's fine.
We called matt Humpris who suggested it could be the throttle body or lambda sensor. I think I have spares but the rollers are 65 miles from the house.
Lucky had a lift back with my mate as he took his mk1 escort down same time. He got 188 bhp lucky git- goes really well
Any ideas peeps

Yes did the dizzy mod Frank. Forgot to mention that after you rev the car up the engine would stall. Excuse me for being dull what's maf is it mass air flow like airflow meter?

my red car played up like that when i did the dizzy mods fwn yet it worked fine on the blue car

Yup. It would be good to check by running the car with a non modified distributor to rule out that modification in particular from the mix before speculating into lambda sensors, MAF sensors etc, (helps to isolate the problem).

Not related but did you adjust the ignition timing back when you altered the exhaust cam, as that may gain/lose you some power.

Didn't get chance to do ignition timing as after cam timing it played up. Thanks for replies though guys.
Will get the dizzy mod off. May pop down tomorrow to see if can sort something.

Going totry to get as many spares as poss then go down if got the time. Been told 1000cc t/b fits to test? Hopefully will get this done soon as heroic for a skid. Caerwent coming up soon ish

Car sorted. Bloody tape mod. Thankyou Frank for your advice.(Y)
Car made 96 bhp at wheels so 118/119@ flywheel? Made a little bit more mid range power. Gained 6 bhp at wheels from first run up. Happy now at it's optimum.
Thanks for your advice peeps!!!!!!!!
Will post up dyno sheet when I pick up the car tomorrow

this may sound dumb but why the l plates? is it because your a beginner at this?

is the car fully road legal?

if so id suggest bringing it to JAE show how good these damn cars are!

Yes the car is legal. The L plates are just a Mick take because looks like a school of motoring car. Never thought about taking to a show before. Track day thing is it? I've only really done rallies and road rallies

well no JAE is a simply park up show over 3 days obviously dont need to stay the 3 days but however there are track shows about!! like japfest 1 at castle coombe and japfest 2 at donnington park and there rr gathering tomorrow at cheltnam (prescot hillclimb)

To be honest not really my thing parking up in a show. Car has few battle scars and starting to look a bit tatty. Will be getting it sorted when I find some White front wings. Be a bit out of place with all the shiney motors on here

but my thought was it would show other what these are made out of but im sure a show where its motorsport based will be good then

yeah might go for the hill climb too tomorrow i think theres a couple of spare stand passes available if you can get there and its 20quid for a morning or afternoon session

Few updates on the car. I've been busy putting it back to roadrally spec. Fitted carpets, rear seats n shelf fitted, cutout boot carpet so 14" wheel spares can be fitted, also re fitted my spot lights.
I'm doing the twilight road rally on 3/4 September. This would be a cracking rally for anyone else to do if interested with a mixture of Tarmac around an old army base and smooth forestry. Rally is based in south Wales.

Twilight rally today. Hope the car holds together. Should be fun. My brother is only 2 cars behind me in his 318is BMW. Could be fun

Twilight done! Had issues with getting lost and think broke an engine mount or it came loose? Still got bloody oil leak on shaft. Poss bit of cv boot grease about now as well. Ah well caerwent rally in 2 or 3 weeks. Best get it done. God I miss my mk1 in the forest haha.
Anyway few pics

Bit blurry but sorry

Found out what the issue was. Picture below. Was banging a fair bit and handling was bit weird but thought it was due to the forestry roads. I'm assuming this isn't unusual

Recently competed in caerwent patriot stages rally. Was really good fun. Slippery in the morning which suited the small power micra. Came 43 oa out of 100 starters. We started off in 30 second intervals and on the first stage we passed 3 cars!! Pictures below on a hairpin right. On the handbrake

Quick update, did the mel harries memorial rally on sat night with a mate on the maps. Car was superb as the tight and twisty lanes were really slippery and muddy. The conditions really suited the car which enabled us to catch a few cars as bigger engined cars struggled for grip etc. We were setting top ten times overall on first few selectives according to my navigator. After petrol we had to travel down a White (country lane with an unbroken forest/gravel surface which normally only used by landrovers etc) as we were catching a c2 I got a bit over excited and kept it flat out in 2nd gear at max revs and after a few large holes and heavy landings the wishbone snapped again. Bit slower next time. The wishbone was only changed few days before as bent the previous one during breaking.
We then cut to the finish and probably ended up last of the finishers??
Really enjoyed the night and will put a picture up later

Their only about £30 each new so I know the bushes are good etc. I used up all of my stock of 2nd hand ones. I was a bit over the top down the White to be fair to the car. It's strong as hell though. Fully seam welded, strut brace and full multipoint cage.
