The simple thing to do, is just listen. Put a screwdriver to your ear and touch it to the timing chain casing if your ears aren't brilliant. If it's stetched you will hear the unmistakable sound of a slack chain. If you're not sure what slack chains sound like, just listen to a few corsa's start up.
