Weee Bump!

Wha Tank
Sitting stationary at a junction and next thing a know im sitting on the other side of the road in agony with my back and neck...

Old guy aged about 60 just "never saw me sitting there"...
hes took full responsability for hitting me so its into the insurance guys hands now.

just a quick question though, directly behind the rear bumper theres like a big metal box, what is this? is it replacable? this part seems pretty bent and bashed

my tailgate, and rear bumper are near enough non existent now lol old boy hit me at 40 without braking so you can imagine the state of the car...

thanks in advance :)

depending how old car is and how much it is to repair.....chances are they will just write it off, You can allways offer to buy it back of insurance company..............

Glad your ok! sounds like you could have suffered quite badly. Does the metal box run the length of the bumper? as it sounds like the support bar.

Sounds like you were lucky you weren't seriously injured, take the American route and sue him for a 'shadow on your neck x-ray', lol.
My fez got written off and it just had a smashed headlight and steering column. good luck with the insurance company.

cheers for the replies, the metal box thing runs the length of the car. its directly behind the rear bumper. one side of its bent pretty bad but the other sides fine...

sorry, i cant give a better description other than "that metal box thing" lol

thanks again

is it "on the car" or the "bumper"

its a rear bumper support brace...for impacts i do believe....

shoule be flush / tight against the inner bumper wall..

if its bent and falling off then maybe a new bumper?

u tryed fixing it / attaching it back on?

the metal box is on the car, it sits directly behind the rear bumper but its been bent and pushed in a fair bit

Thats definately the bumper support bar. Glad your ok though. What the hell was he doing? Tuning his sterio!! Just think if that was a child in the road :(

just waitin on the assessor guy from the insurance company to come out now

theres some photos of how bent that "thing" is and the damage to the car...

either way its gonna get fixed or im gettin another k11 anyway :)

only just opened my boot, never thought to check that...

i had started to make a false floor and had the base totally flush with the boot floor. no the right hand side is still flush but theres about a half inch gap on the left now.

ill be gutted if its written of :(
cars been in the family for 5 years now

That would mean the shell is twisted then, are there any other signs of damage such as ripples or dents in the sides or roof of the car ? it is theoretically repairable with a jig and specialist tools, but straightening it would seriously weaken the structure of the rear of the car and would be expensive and time consuming, sorry mate I really think it's a write off.

ive checked the whole car for ripples, cant seem to find any.

ill just have to hang off and see what the assessor sais to it

cheers for the reply anyway sonic

Have you checked the manifold then? As i'm sure the exhaust would have been pushed in at quite a strong force, possibly damaging engine components.

Engine would be fine..

Write off that mate,

Just make sure you keep your car,

Different insurers do things differently, but in my expereance they give you an oppertunity to buy the car back at 'Scrap Value'.. being about 100quid..

I dont really have space to keep the car if they write it of, dont have a garage or anything.
Totally gutted about this now! only just went and spent about 200 quid a few weeks ago gettin new shocks fitted and getting the sills and crossmember patched up.

Ive read in loads of places that you cant transfer discs from one car to another, this definitely true?

got OMP Racing discs on it and would hate to see them go to the scrappy with the car...

cheers for all the replies :)

harsh mate, but glad you are ok. looks exactly like spike's car, and that was a write off, sorry mate.

oh yea BTW you can transfer disks :D

you can transfer discs from one car to another, but it's best to transfer the calipers and pads as well, otherwise you would have a bedding in period for the brakes again.

got round to taking the false floor out and stuff earlier. never realised how badly bent the floor was. stood in shock for a minute!

heres a photo anyway...

once again, thanks for the replies :)

mine has had the same accident, new bumper, new tail gate, new support bar, floor re-pulled and filled, new spoiler, new exhaust........ and that was done on the insurance before i got it..

i would worry matey, sledge hammer and some paint, then get yourself a new bumper and support bar, bobs your uncle..

wee update!

Cars been written of, engineer valued it at 900 though so im pretty happy with that.

of out in an hour or so to see a mates micra thats for sale, apparently already got tints and buckets in it so if its mechanicaly sound then i should have it on the road for monday:D

guttted i left my springs, backbox and de-cat on the old car though:(
wasnt allowed to take things of it...

Can you not buy them back for scrap value?

How much did you originally pay for the car and parts?

Glad your getting it sorted though. :)

Sounds like you were lucky you weren't seriously injured, take the American route and sue him for a 'shadow on your neck x-ray', lol.
.

Thats what I would do, and thats what I did when some doofus hit me from behind in his 4x4.

Glad your okay though. Although, your neck won't be the same again with a prang like that. Mine's not...

dont think insurance comapany lets you buy back write offs anymore i heard something about people doing that ringing cars so they stopped it what catagory write off was it bud?

Mine was written off but they gave it back! They said i'd have had to of bought it if i was Fully comp. Category C incase your wondering :)

it was a category D a think, maybe a B. cant understand foreigners on the phone!!

just been to view the other micra.

Very Very nice (Y) (Y)

Looks like it needs some bodywork, so check it all over before you do anything as they will cut you a deal :)

Edit:

Looks like a works rear spoiler too :O

i gave it a good check over, some bumps and scrapes but nothing me and my mates cant repair really.

getting the whole car for £350

engine is sound too, well chuffed :D

Awesome, i'd say with all the bits on it, that's an awesome deal :D

I just need to wait for mine to be sorted... Money comes in, i go see kristian, i go see body shop = me skint :(

the skirts are rivited on so i couldnt see the sill...

guys a welder though, crossmember is in top condition so i doubt hed let any other part of the car rot

the guy im buying it from races dave bull "little bandit" at crail. there mates lol

think it was a 200 sx he had in the drive when i went to see the micra. the sound of that thing actually hurt my insides! felt sick when he was revving it

even if the sills do need a little work i cant really moan about it.

getting the car for 350 so another hundred or so to get things patched aint bad
