Tried To fit new stereo, didn't go to plan...

Hi Guys,

Finally had the time to replace the stereo on my 1998 Micra with a new DAB one. Had it fitted in my old fiat and worked perfectly. When i put it in the Micra, it caused a drain on the battery and i could barely start the car.

I think it's the earth thats the problem, as when i took it back out, there were a couple of sparks (I attached the original units' mountings to the new one and used that as the earth through the dash).

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else or if someone has any tips on getting it working?

The k11 earths through the aerial, you could add an earth using the anti vibration thingy at the back and wiring it to the dash frame

Thanks, didn't have the original aerial plugged in that might be why it was shorting. I'll get an adaptor and try it again.

They earth to the chassis Karl. Worked that one out years ago when I had a K11 .

Take the aerial out and see if it will play a CD touching the chassis and not touching the chassis, see which one works .

I've played a cd without either Guy, then it fizzled and I earthed it through the aerial

Hi guys, just got an adaptor for the aerial and plugged it in and it works fine now, no drain on the battery! Thanks for your advice
