Torque band

very recently my torque band has moved up the revs a bit ( about 3k revs to about 4.3k revs ) it was lower than this (well it felt it ) and the change happened quite quickly as i noticed the difference.

also i am noticing a increase in fuel consumption (about a 25% increase )

any ideas

k&n filter (its been in a couple of weeks so i dont think its this)
she is due a oil change, but the oil doesn't look bad
Spark plugs are 10k miles (1 year) old
she also backfires when dropping through the revs in 2nd gear (pfft pfft pfft noise through the exhaust)-(always done this)
idles ~1k revs +/- 200

thats about all the related issues i can think off, but i would like to know if any of the smart folk here can think of/know anything

biting point feels the same as before, but this is a thought as i dont know when it was last changed (still wheelspins like a nutter, but not as readly- i dont 'try' but coming off roundabouts in the wet usually resulted in a unwanted wheelspin lol)
