timing chain broke after 51000 miles whats the likely damage?

Hi the timing chain on my 97 micra vibe let go after 51000 miles whats the likely damage and cost to repair in pounds sterling its a 1 litre engine and im not sure if it of interferance type.

Hello tomac,

I am afraid if your timing chain is broken the news will not be good. There will definately will be internal damage to the engine (bent valves etc). The most cost effective fix would be to obtain a complete replacement engine from a breaker's yard or import place.

As makes says will not be a cheap fix and his advice in sourcing a low mileag replacement engine the best bet.

thanks for the comments, guess i'll have to look at poss replacement as that sounds pricey
