Starting trouble

Firstly, hello all from a newbie- My name's charlie, I'm 22 and I'm a big nissan fan. Have a ±300bhp pulsar gti-r, along with a bmw m3 evo convertible. *waves*

As i love nissans so much, I got my girlfriend a 1998 1 litre nissan micra twister... it even has air con!! It's a lovely little car but it has one problem, occasionaly it just doesnt start!

I have used the search on the forums for starting problems but the stuff I found was quite vague.

The car turns over fine, runs fine once going but just sometimes (it seems related to damp days) it wont start. Sometimes it will start after leaving it for a while, and sometimes it just wont! I have changed the plugs, I did change the rotor arm and cap, but this caused a different fault to develop altogether- intermittent cutting out of engine (accompanied by a very quick flash of the engine check light). Changing back to the old arm and cap cleared that- strange.

Any ideas or pointers would be appreciated, I'm a qualified electronic/mechanical engineer so I'm open to any suggestions. It's just a pain that being an intermittant fault I never know if it's solved. My girl is gonna have my balls if I dont get it sorted soon :glare:

Any help appreciated. Thanks people!

I haven't really got that many pics of the pulsar hosted. I'll have to take some :grinning:

You could just be flooding it, or it could be damp in the dizzy, a squirt of WD40 allegedly fixes the latter and removing the fuel pump fuse and cranking it for a bit fixes the former, do you get a good smell of petrol when it doens't start and you take the plugs out?
