spring cut

I wouldn't agree it is dangerous in itself. But be sure what you are trying to achieve. Also be vary careful to lower both ends of the car. Shortening a spring makes it stiffer. If you stiffen the front and leave the back alone it will understeer more. Stiffen the back and it will oversteer. Do it evenly and it will behave as normal. Also lowering the front will alter the camber. (You wil also have to get the tracking done).

Most cars handle better if they are lower and stiffer. But remeber the shocks are designed t work withthe springs. So a bit stiffer should be OK. But change it radically and your shocks won't be up to it, so the car will bounce a bit.

The better option is to get a handling kit. More expensive, but much more predicatable.

But as always don't forget to tell your insurance company. If they don't mind then no probelm. If they don't lke it and put the premium up, remember if they find out after the accident you would not have been insured!

Suspension springs have flat tops and bottoms, to have a secure / strong fitting. By cutting them, your putting all the stress onto a single point instead of the base of the spring

I wouldn't be surprised if this caused the spring to be less effective and a higher chance of snapping under load.

Do the job properley, and get lowering springs. It's just dangerous cutting them to save a few quid. If you lose control of your car as a result, you could end up killing someone! If they weren't dangerous - they'd pass MOT's wouldn't they!
