Hi guys i have just bought a 2005 micra 1.2s with 57k on the clock and its smoking ive done a compression test which is excellent and when i took the air filter off it stopped smoking ive heard the crank case breather can clog up is this true or is it the pcv valve if it as one any feedback would be appreciated many thanks nigel

May be some oil or similar in the air filter if it stops when you take it off? We had a Honda lawnmower and I tipped it to the wrong side to clean the grass clogged underneath. Oil seeped into the air filter and it smoked like a good-un, popping and backfiring too which was confusing at first.

We've been running it without an oil filter just fine (my dad is too lazy to buy a new one despite my insistence !)
