Smell of Petrol

every now and then i get a strong smell of petrol, i have checked the pipes around the carb and they seem to be ok for car car its age.
can anyone help me plz its driving me nutz.....:k12cop:

ive got the exact same thing with mine!! it smells stronger at the rear on mine and the fuel consumption hasnt changed. I got it fully checked out by my mates dad whos a mechanic and he couldnt find any leaks or any problems.

check your fuel filler necks as they rust worse than anything making holes in them you can normally test it when you next fill up with petrol, fill it right to the cap and look for leaks from the pipe

LOL last time I did that; I made BUNGLE and ended up having to report a spillage on the forecourt to the cashier/technician

i also got the same when i am driving about i smell it fome the front where the carb is but i think it mite be the vapour from the fuel

me too. mainly when on choke, i dont really worry about it, maybe i should?

its not enough to ignite when i light a ciggy though.

I think you usually smell it when the choke is on, unless you have major carb problems and it's dumping in fuel! You'l normally notice performance issues with this though, along side very low MPG.

mine is the same sometimes i can smell it..in particular when other people are in the car they notice it!

yeah can smell it just when cold on choke. mpg returns a regular 45-50 mpg so no probs there.

quite like the smell of petrol so dont really mind
