Question about new brakes

Hi,
I need new brakes and pads on my K11, and i was wondering if anybody knew somewhere cheap to have them done. Nissan garage have quoted me £160 and fast fit have quoted more!

Also, just fitted K&N 57i and i was told it messes the engine up, is that true? (I have 1.0 16v)

fitting should be no more than £40 from any garage.
K&N filter will not mess up your engine.
