Painting the grille.

I'm not happy with the way my grille looks at the moment and I was thinking about either painting it body colour or somehow making a mesh grill mod. Anyone tried something like that before?

I've got the old pre face lift one with just small bit of chrome in the middle. I guess I could just pain this or take it out.

I wonder what plastic is it made of and how will it react if ill try to paint it with the stuff I've bought to re-paint one of my splitters.

I also have the Micra with the small chrome in the middle of the grille.

I going see if I can remove the chrome trim, wrap some black car vinyl like 3M, over them and stick them back on.
That way I can just remove the vinyl if I decide to sell again.

Good idea and good timing. I've just received some vinyl wrap today that I've ordered for the tail lights. I'll give it a go first. And yes, you can take it out quite easily.

Wow, I need a set of those in my life :) - what year or country are they from?

Oooo...looks good..I bet it would be nice in a Carbon effect too :p

That's the original UK grill Guy (52reg-05reg)...my mum has that grill on her SVE
..very easily obtained on ebay/scrappy ^_^
...it changed (55reg to 07reg) to mine ,same as your old SR(?)
...then yours came with other facelift stuff (57reg - 60reg) like the black B pillar and rearranged cup holder ;)

I'm also planning to tint the orange repeaters, thing is, I need to get my hands on the right screwdriver. What is it called?

Flat head?... Philips head? (cross head) :p
or do you need an allan key?...

I've not looked at the side indicators on mine so I don't actually know what they are to tell you for sure...I'd have to dig out the Haynes manual...any of those ring a bell? LOL

It's done now. It's neither of these. It's like something between Allen and Philips. Star shaped Allen key. I had a set of screwdrivers for phone repairs and one of them was a perfect match.

I used E-Tech Smoked tinting spray. They sell them on £bay. I think about £7 inc postage..

If you're spraying it for the 1st time.. Go easy with the spray.. Start spraying lightly. Best of luck :)
Did you do the rear lights as well? I'm wondering which part do I have to leave out so I don't fail the mot. I think sticking additional reflectors defeats the purpose.

Yeh.. I have done the tail lights and stuck a small round reflectors on the each side. (Sorry this app won't allow me to upload any pic) :(

These are the works I have done to my Micra so far. (Hope you can view it)

I've done the repeaters already with the vinyl wrap but I thought It would be to much hassle to do head and taillights same way so I've ordered some spray today. My car will soon look a lot like yours. I've got Wolfrace pro-sprint as well but I have got rid of the diamond cut and went with mirror polish. I've got the original body kit as well but I've kept the headlights covers. I'll post some pictures when I'm happy with the way it looks.

Can't wait to see your car..

If you're planning to smoke tint the headlights then I will strongly advice think before u do it.. Because if you don't get the equal layers of paint, you will end up seeing odd shades of colours when the lights are on (light and dark patches).

I have brought the tinting vinyl for the headlight (specially made for light) the vinyl has small holes for the light to scape. You can only notice the hole when you go closer to the headlights.

liking your car azb786 not to keen on the circle reflectors being on the lights do you think they could be placed anywere on the arear maybe either side of reg plate or bottom of rear bumper

Thanks mate

Defo agree with you. I did also had other ideas like u mentioned.. Stick it at the bottom of the bumper, number plate or on the boot but by then it was too late :( I will take it off n most likely stuck em on the corner of the boot.
BTW I also have the LED strip wired to the tail lights... Here is the pic

Thanks for the manual. I've tried following it to no avail. From what I gather I need to remove the mirror body first to get to the catches holding the cover but i could not find any tabs holding it. I've given up when the mirror starter making sounds like it was on the verge of braking. Also on the pictures there are 3 screws. I thought to take the whole thing off and try to take it apart at home but I found that there was no screws on the bottom of my unit.

Easy job really-

*start by removing the mirror glass, flat blade screw driver from the edge furthest away from the car.
I've never broken the glass yet- so pretty foolproof way of removal.

*once the glass is out you should see 4 clips poking through the backing- use the screwdriver to push on these to eject the cover carefully
