New car

ok, a new car is on the horizon and i'm going to test drive the second of the two soon/ i've been thinking long and hard and have ended up with two cars, these are not going to change so its one or the other just wanted some opinions.

1st is a 2001 audi a3 1.8 turbo quattro (80,000miles) full audi service history.

180bhp, already test driven this and was soooo soooo nice. very fast aswell, a remap would push the engine past 200bhp easily and on standrd internals there good for 300+bhp

2nd is a 1997 toyota starlet glanza v in white (yummy) (59,000miles)

yet to test drive i think we all know the potential with these.

what do you think? which one would you go for?

selling already dave? i take it the k10's had it then? shame really after all the work you've put in.

have to say build quailty on the audi's is superb but servicing costs a fortune, i think the starlet would be more fun and being toyota its cheaper to maintain ;)

I'd buy the glanza, I loved mine for all 36 hours, and i will be getting another one. The only thing is they run on super unleaded which could get costly, and insurance is higher being an import.

I should think the audi would run on only super aswell.
I would go for the Glanza, as thats what I'm looking at going for in a year or so.

Audi 1.8T.

No contest IMO, much newer car, 4 wheel drive, potential for a lot of power, with loads of off the shelf (and probably quite cheap) mods as it's such a common engine, lot more creature comforts and (dare I say it) safer! (4 star NCAP rating)

Audi.

Personally don't like the look of the Glanza's, and I have an affection with german cars so...

Have fun insuring either of those though, especially at 19.

Good point, in fact you're more likely to get insured on the Audi, UKDM and only group 15 for a Quattro T Sport - 1 group higher than my Primera!!

Ohh, that's blow. I was thinking of picking up a GT in the next year or so once I've got one year no claims. Would of been penny's to insure for what it is if it was group 9.

But alas, no.

Give it a try anyway, I was very impressed with quotes I got for my GT. It doesn't look too "desirable" to thieves, I found the prices cheaper than an Almera GTi which is the same group and power. £540 with 1 year NCB and 1 declared accident (Went into the back of a K12 at 5mph of all cars!) from Elephant!

Anyway, straying off the topic slightly!

It just shows up on ABI as "Group G" (Which is the generic one for imports)

The only way to get prices for things like that is to go through specialist insurers.

Just out of interest, I got two quotes from Elephant with my details like-for-like...

Fully comp, £350 excess, 10 month bonus accelerator, no named drivers

Audi Quattro T Sport - £687
Unfortunately it didnt show the Glanza V in the list, but the Glanza S Import was there, which is the non-turbo version: £584.19

id say the audi. More car for the money really, more power and torque standard. However the 4wd will be much more thristy then a starlet. Even running the audi on standard and the starlet on super the toyota is going to beat it every time. Consumption and cost.

to answer a few questions. i am keeping the micra i'm not going anywhere soon guys ;) it is however being returned to standrd performance wise, this will be my main car that i will use to drive to and throw from uni. my dad will be the registerd owner of the audi/starlet and he will be insuring it. i'm insured to drive any car third party so this will be my special occassion car :)
