My car is going back on the rollers again tomorrow after sorting some things out with it.

I Will be posting the results up tomorrow. anyone who wants to know the spec of the car it is:

1235cc MA12 engine
Lightened and balanced flywheel
Custom 4-2-1 stainless exhaust manifold
Full custom stainless exhaust system.
Modified escort RS turbo inlet manifold
46mm SU HIFcarb

Anyone wanna put up a guess at the power figures??? will post up pictures and Video if all goes well

what are they standard? and what as your last RR result and what mods did u have then?

You've removed all that emissions stuff havent you.. I havent a clue what figures you'l get, so im gonna have a wild guess at 15/20bhp gain. Hope your happy with the results whatever they are!

the super s is 54bhp standard.

I had it ran before before but its wasnt right and i had other problems with things so it wasnt near what it should have been.

15-20bhp? I'm hoping for 80+ :grinning:

test your compression 1st mark to see if there all the same a good standard engine should be about 140/160psi if your engine is good i think you should see around 80+@flywheel

I've already tested my engine and they were all around 180psi.

140/160 is quite low and is not standard

293bhp lol

no i think maybe around 80-90bhp 90bhp being the topptie top, thats at the fly by the way

altough it all depends on the dyno as ive seen them differ loads

basically what happened was it went on the rollers late in the afternoon and they got the emissions and the idleing right but they couldnt get it rich enough through the higher revs so they are doing something to the needle fileing it a bit (they called it leiging or something) and they gonna do it again on monday as they didnt have enough time left.

they didnt do a power run as there was no point with it being too lean. hopefully will have results on monday

sounds like they are going to do a proper job which is good, very intrested to see the results :) it about time a k10 owner actually did some tuning rather than just throwing around theories and dreams ;) keep up the good work

I rang Pro-Tune just and they are actually working on my car now,

car should be done today just wish i could be there and not stuck at work!

when its done i should be getting a phone call from them and i'll post up the details..

been fed a few excuses from the garage and its still not done, Have been promised that it will be done by tomorrow so we'll have to see, I ###### off with the place and just wanna get the car back

there basically ******* about with the needle, they are having to have to file it down to make it run richer and they keep taking some off then trying it then taking more and more off etc. its basically still running lean so they are gonna stick it on the rollers tomorrow and get it done

well good luck i had mine tested n it was total standard cg13de n i got 68.4 at wheels so 80 ish at fly i was told.

good luck i wana see this now :D

wat does ur car weigh?

:D

Just rang them and they were putting the car on the rollers.

so should have a result in the next couple of hours :)

I spoke to them at about 4 and they had it on the rollers and the needle was too rich as they had taken too much off it.

the guy was working on another needle and was told that it should be back on and finished before they close at six.

I myself dont think its going to be done today but theres still time so will have to wait and see.

Unfortunatly they cannot get the fueling right, basically they cannot get the top end to be rich enough without the bottom end becoming too rich, so it basically ends up being lean top end with it too rich at the bottom, i was advised by them to get an electric fuel pump as they suspect the standard mechanical pump to not being able to flow enough fuel at the top end.

Also the place thinks it could do with a bigger carb too to supply more fuel, I know bob ran it with a 32mm restrictor plate to restrict the airflow so mine needs more fuel because it has no restrictor and with bob using the original pump and being ok mine is struggling to flow more,

any ideas or comments are welcome,

can they not put a bigger jet with a bigger needle in ur carb then re tune it

or can u not get a bigger size of weber not the micra one one which would suit ur application

I'm using an SU carb which doesnt use jets it has needles,

they have tried bigger needles but it is way too rich and basically floods the engine when full throttle is applied at low rpm,

and changing to a weber is not an option as the manifold was made to take an SU and I paid money to have the carb reconditioned,

I think I'm going to change the pump to an electric on with a pressure of about 1.5 - 4psi and take it back to them like they suggested, either that or try a 32mm restrictor plate in it like bob used

Ed should be able to sort you out with a fuel pump of some kind if your looking for one :)

they have told you a load of crap they dont now how to set up su carbs mark hope you didn't give them any money for a job they cant do.
ring this place mark,PRP at lincoln 01522 722605 and ask for paul he's mustard with su carb's ,he could make an su work on a mower,,,,,,
i bet they kept fileing more and more off the needle and in the wrong place and the standard micra fuel pump is good enough

I dont know what i'm gonna do bob, spent a lot of money on getting it this far and lincoln isnt exactly close, 85 miles away. Mot runs out on it next week so dunno what i'm gonna do

I have never worked with SU carbs, but I know how they work.

There are several hundred needles for each jet size (the thing the needle sits in). They have different profiles, and you can get one for nearly every possible situation. The needle sets the fueling under steady throttle conditions. You should only every change needles, not modify them.

The pot on top acts in the same was as an accelerator pump does on a normal jetted carb. When you floor it, the damper in it stops the piston moving up quickly, so the vacuum is higher around the needle, causing a richer mixture. There is also the spring in it to resist motion.

So if it runs fine at 1200rpm steady, but bogs down at 1200rpm when you floor it, that means that the damper is resisting motion too much. Either the oil is too thick, or the spring too strong.

mark your car is in th hands of people that know what they are doing,if you dont think they know what they are doing take it to another garage/RR see what they say

if we knew more about this than them,we would have our own RR buisness

There are a lot of muppets around who don't know what they are doing, only because bigger muppets don't know they are being shafted. Not everyone here is clueless about cars.

Rik your posts on this thread are pretty pointless and I wish you wouldnt bother posting in this thread as your posts are not constructive either so can a moderator please clean this thread up.
