Long term reliability NCVT?

As the title, I just bought my Micra shes a 94 M redg with 65k, not perfect but in good shape for the age.
Has the CVT box which I quite like, are they reliable? if it did pack in how hard is it to switch back to 5 speed manual? I have the 1.3 engine.
