Hi guys, have had a problem with my micra for a few weeks now and think it may be an oil pump issue, have any of you known oil pumps to start making nasty noises on these before?

hi andy, no lights, no noticeable change in performance. Its kind of a rumbling/knocking, makes it sound like a very loud diesel. Its constant when idle and seems to speed up a touch when accelerator pressed. Definately seems to be coming from the area of the pulleys but i've had the belts off and its not from the water pump, power steering pump or alternator. No play in the main drive pulley so next thing behind that is the oil pump.

fraid so mate, sump off and its usually possible to carefully remove the cover without scarring the headgasket.
you could try running it for a few secs with the cam cover off eh (which is what i did to diagnose the problem)
but the oil pump slides over a the crankshaft, and is usually bulletproof

just found out that the upper timing chain is eating nicely into its tensioner. Hoping this is my problem.
No. Just some metal dust
I used some brake cleaner when I removed valve cover. Cylinders seems to be oily or atleast wet
