k10 engine help

hi, we have 2 k10 micra's for racing, one we know is a 1 litre but has a cracking shell on it the other is a rotter but we were assured was a 1235 cc, we were going to swap the engines but after checking the insurance data base it says the 1235 cc is actually a 998 cc can anyone tell me how to check, e.g any differences between the 2 engines or markings etc
any help would be much appreciated

the 1235 is a taller block and longer timing belt and cover iirc kelly

on the front right hand side of the engine near the engine mount its say ma10 for a 1.0 and the 1235 says ma12
