Interior switch wiring

Wanting to wire some footwell neons into the interior light, so that they come on when the doors open.

Any idea where the wiring runs to get up to the light?

forgive me (i always get confused with sides) - thats driver's side right?...

backwards - as in towards the back of the car? - and what's the "cant rail"?

yeh, behind the driverside screen pillar trim, then along the inside of the roof (above the door) :)

I'm not the only one confused by this "nearside" and "offside" malarky then, a bit like Port and Starboard. And why do they call the outer lane the "inside" lane and the inner lane the "outside"?

My Grandad was in the navy.
He said, to remember the sides you have to remember this phrase:

"He LEFT the PORT on the table"

Oh and nearside I remember as being "Near the curb" ;)
