Bonnet Switch

I'm new to the forums so apologies in advance if I've posted this in the wrong place.

I bought a 54 plate Micra K12 automatic for my granddaughter recently and I've been taking care of some of the issues you might expect in a nearly 20 year vehicle.

Can anyone identify what's going on with this lovely bodge job I found in the attached photos please? It looks like some sort of bonnet switch that detects whether the bonnet is open or closed perhaps? Can't see any sort of light that it might control to illuminate the engine bay and I'm loath to start peeling apart the old duct tape without knowing what it would be used for.

I've heard horror stories about the Nissan Anti Theft Systems and it concerns me that it might be part of that?

The hole it sticks out of looks like it might accept one of the old spring loaded door switches we used to get on early cars to control the interior light?

Thanks in advance.

Iain
