gearbox change

Hey I changed my gearbox last night and I always wondered what the metal looking teet on the top was for.

When I was putting my New box on I realized this on has a pipe coming off it where does it connect to can't seem to find anywhere.

Any help appreciated thanks

Is it a thin black pipe coming off the gearbox, might be left loose to no fitting I had same pipe it's under the box

Yea that is it is it possible that it is a breather pipe?

No it's a breather leave it somewhere cool without blocking it

its not essential but its there so that if the gear oil gets real hot n expands alot, the excess gas/oil can flow up the pipe without overflowing. once cooled back, the excess can flow back in.
works exactly the same as the coolant expansion tank
