Fuel gauge not working

Hi my petrol guage was reading about 95% full and then the yellow light came on, empty

I just put £30 of fuel in to see what it did but nothing, then I tapped on the plastic screen and now the guage has gone off the end

Fortunatly I have the computer with fuel range, thats saying 293 miles.

Is there an easy fix? Is the fuel computer range accurate enough to not need to fix the guage?
