Engine management light

i know there are a lot of questions on this, but all i want to know is:
if the engine management light comes on when driving, but then after parking the car over night it doesn't show up the next day, does this mean it was a glitch? or should i still get it checked out?
it still appears (and stays on) if i just have the ignition on (no engine running) along with the handbrake light and battery light and oil light...but i thought this was a normal thing...

not that i can see. just the EML symbol. i have heard you can get codes to flash up by shorting a couple of terminals but not sure if this is something i want to do - is it risky?

i think thats on the earlier obd1 type, codereaders for your system are dirt cheap nowadays eh

ecu light whilst driving is BAD. ECU light with ignition on but engine stopped is normal.

Give me a call or bring it to me if you suspect something is wrong and I'll take a look.

well it came on when i was driving one day, but now its gone. is it supposed to do that?

No. :) What year is the car? If its pre 2000 then it may be a faulty ECU. If its post 2000 then it may just be a sensor failure.

I had my EML light come on, on my 2001 1.4, and i also had a bad misfire, had it code read at the local Nissan specialists and it came up with a lamda problem, car was due a service anyway so changed plugs and airfilter etc etc, also disconnected the battery overnight, next day no problems and it's been that way for nearly a year lol, i've also had the EML light come on, on a micra i owned a few years ago with no running problems, disconnected the battery for a few hours no more EML probs so might be worth a try first if the EML comes on again.

thanks for the help. i think it probably needs a bit of a minor service. if i look at the lambda sensor (i assume there is only one and its located on the exhaust manifold) how do i know if it needs replacing? or is that something only a diagnostic can tell me..??

There are two lamda sensors on my 1.4 it was the first one on the manifold but i never replaced it, usually get running probs with a faulty sensor, if your cars running fine and the EML is now off i wouldn't worry overly but you can get it fault read as the code should be stored
