engine management light help

Hi all,

our engine management has come on (orange light)
i know without the code theres nothing anyone can really do, but after a bit of advice.

nothing seems wrong car drives fine, revs ok etc etc

any advice what to do next?

i had that on mine but when i disconected the battery to do some electrical work after connecting it back up it had gone off?????

haynes manual shows you could put the ecu into diagnostic mode by shorting two of the lower left pins of the diagnostic plug for 2secs during ignition and the engine light would flash back the sequence of stored faults.

thanks for the replies, guess i will have to short the pins out then.

nothing seems wrong will check the bay over in the light tho

is that not for the facelift?
in haynes and on my 98 slx it's the 2 lower left pins.

ah looking at the relative vertical notches, the facelift connector must be upside down to the pre-facelift

anyway, noting those vertical notch feature on the connector, if the pattern of the pins are like -> :|::|::|:: then you short the lower left two
if the pattern is like -> ::|::|::|: then you short the upper right two pins.
