Dodgy fuel sensor?

Hey guys, done a search and not found anything relating to this:

When driving, if im constantly accelerating hard my fuel level goes down pretty fast, but if i then start driving steady, it goes back up =S...

is this normal or is there something wrong with the fuel sensor?

How much fuel DO you have? I have a an impotent fuel gauge too. Any Ideas as to why fuel gauges get stuck or dont respond people??

well it went down to half on the way home from my mates and as i entered my hometown and went to economical mode (so no family see me drive daft) it went up to between half way and 3/4, i wouldn't mind if it was a little movement but thats like a full gallon of petrol difference i believe

There's no way that the amount of fuel held in the system would affect the sensor that much. I'd lean towards a mechanical problem with the sensor (causing it to be very sensitive towards "surging" in the tank during hard driving) or, unlikely, a problem with the electrics of the fuel level system (maybe voltage regulation).
