Corolla - written off :( (now with crash pics)

Well it didn't take me long lol, already I have a K&N induction kit on it's way and a modified throttle body!

Insurance situation....

They can easily value the corolla from the list price which isn't a problem, the issues are with the valuations on the modifications carried out on the car, the senior engineer is valuing them and I should know more later this week

Kev

Well due to some serious recent running problems with the escort, I will no longer be keeping the car. There has been some developments with the engine that no one can seem to determine what is making it run soo poorly and some other issues which also need attention.

I have a budget of 3-4k plus part ex on the escort to get a new car, I'm looking into some very nice cars for around that price.

I maybe able to stretch to what I need to get the Integra, if not I'm consdering an Impreza amongst others.

Insurance still taking an age, I will now begin to really hassle them to get it sorted, senior engineer imo is taking far too long in valuing the modifications....

Kev

Bummer about the Escort Kev! You best sell those lights back you bought at Donny lol.

I know a few people who own or have had Scoobies & they loved them. Can get a good example fairly cheap these days, giving you a bit left over for mods.

I'm just glad I made this decision now and that the problems have arisen before investing too much in the car, it's shame really as it was increadibly low milleage and did have a lot of potential to be modified and done up well.

I have seen an Ingetra for £4995, which I'm VERY tempted in, but now having the escort I could do with a part ex or having to spend a few £££'s to get it ready for selling.

let the fun the begin :D

Well this very morning I have received my very first offer of £1,700 grr

So much for modifications being covered like for like. The car in good a1 condition is worth £1,000 - £1,180, my corolla was in excellent condition and cannot be described as anything different and lower then expected milleage too.

So basically you could say for over 5.6k's worth of modifications (with receipts) they are giving me back £700, this in no way affects the purchase of my new car, so I can fight them to get the payout to where I think it should be. I'm looking for no less then £2,500.

That's how it is mate, don't expect them to be generous at all. You pay hundreds or more a year and expect a decent payout in return, but you'l have lots of hassle to get it. They're only looking out for themselves, and being a modified car specialist, you'd think they'd know what they're doing.

From what you've said at Donny, it sounds like they haven't got a clue!

Well like I mentioned I don't need the payout to get another car, so I can go off, purchase what I like and then fight the insurance payout in the meantime.

Funny actually I start mentioning I'll need a hire car and all of sudden they offer me a figure lol!

This is the list of cars I have come up with in order of preference:

Honda Integra Type R
Subaru Impreza
Mazda RX7
Toyota MR2
Toyota Glanza
Almera GTI
Mazda MX6
Audi a3
Hyundai Coupe

I'm ringing a garage now about an Integra. EDIT: nooooo it's sold :(

Kev :D

Integra's are Gorgeous, a lad who lives near me has just brought one, even standard they stand out more than scoobie's and rx7's imo. Btw hes got his in like a cream colour, i love it :)

I'm off to have my first serious look around for a new car today. First stop Honda garage then onto Subaru. Luckily there are quite a few dealerships and garages throughout leicester, going to be one busy day...

Kev

If you decide to go for your 3rd option, my best mate is selling his 400hp Efini RX-7 Type-R for £8,500 if you are interested.

Wheels need to be resprayed (the guy my mate bought the wheels off did a rubbish job of spraying them), but other than that it's a great example.

thanks for the offer, a bit more then I want to spend I'm afraid...

Anyway had a crap day lol, didn't find a damn thing I would even slightly consider. I'm going to ring a garage tomorrow about an import impreza

Kev

A very good mate of mine is selling a Jap Import Impreza WRX STi actually:

http://micra.org.uk/showthread.php?p=192553#post192553

It's a later version of the nicest shape Impreza though so it may be out of your price range, I don't know? What sort of price are you looking at. I have some good friends with some great contacts over in Japan and can certainly ask them to work out a deal for you if you are interested in importing one. Thought about the idea of a Skyline? The R32 GTR will kick the **** out of the scooby and the price of them has dropped thru the floor. The GTS's are a nice car also, but to be honest...there are too many about these days. You can easily pick up a 600hp GTR for under £10,000 and a near stock one you can get on the autotrader for probably £5,000.

Why an imported impreza? There are plenty of good uns in the UK already.
More power in the JDM models. Can't remember off the top of my head what the quoted power is, but remember the restrictions in Japan are mental so if you put a stock JDM Impreza on the rollers it will typically pull 30 or 40 more hp than the stated stock amount. The UK versions, I think, are stated as being 10hp less than the stated JDM hp, however the UK versions DON'T pull an extra 30 or 40hp lol There are other advantages to the JDM versions aswell...again without looking I can't remember, but I think they come with a titanium front strut brace as standard and better headlighting??

I believe in jap land they also don't use lacquer very often lol.

I remember somebody buying some alloys from Japan and they were a mess after a month in the UK

Cars imported from Japan usually have a higher spec then there UK version i.e nearly every jap imported from Japan has air conditioning as standard plus many more optional extra's fitted.

I'm just weighing up my options as what to do and asking people's opinions on buying or importing a Japanese made car.

Kev

I'm after something a bit newer and larger then an ST.

If I was considering something similiar to an ST I would probably go for a Glanza.
