Brake conversion

Hi guys and girls. I have a k11 with drums all round is there a disc brake conversion or will I have to buy a new one with disks as I am going to be doing a custom build. Rat look style

Thanks in advance

all micras have front disc brakes. at the rear, drum brakes are more common whereas rear disc brakes were only an optional extra and on very specific models, so finding a spare rear disc axle will be harder than usual.

for handbrake & braking power efficiency, the drum brakes are fine. the self-adjuster just needs regular servicing.
rear discs are only more beneficial towards high temp stress (motorsport) and aesthetics but the handbrake is less effective and tends to seize, requiring regular service, specialist tools or expensive rebuilds.

for converting rear drums to discs you either fit disc calipers onto a drum brake axle with an adapter plate, or you replace the whole axle with a disc brake axle (which are quite rare), plus probably new trailing arms & bolts cos they always seize solid.

once the calipers on, you still need to replace the handbrake cables, brake hoses, probably new disc & pads and the caliper handbrake mechanism inside commonly dries & seizes up so may need rebuilding.
