Lee's micra dot

Four in total on mine. But it was a pig to get off.. Every thing had just rusted solid in to one lump, so it had to be cut off instead of just unbolted..

But worth the hassle as the rattle was doing my head in.. Sounds so much better now, especially at high revs..

So you have no exhaust shield then? Is that safe? Mines annoying me slightly

Yep perfectly safe in my experience..Fitted a new down pipe to my sisters K11 about three years ago,and never put a heat shield on that. That has done 200 mile trips with no problems at all..

Any way. i thought you had a Janspeed on yours ??

Oh I thought it was the heatshield further back, towards the centre pipe bend and backbox. I have a bit removed but faf putting it back, just laziness really.

The micra faces an uncertain future now :(

Hang on... Are you jacking it up under that rusty panel?
Yes but there wasn't a hole there when i jacked it up. Only went under there to paint over an old repair and ended up with this :(. Moved the jack sharpish tho after i released..

So the plans now are ether to buy a welder and sort it my self, or i have found another pre face lift not far away, with only 40K on the clock.
Reluctant the later tho, as i have put alot of work in to this one.

Oh and i did find two other patches, but they are not structural so nothing to worry about ..

If you can do it gor the cost of the welder and labour in 200 quid. Fix her. If more shoot her for airplane meat. Once you have rust its a losing battle.

Well things today just went from bad to worse :(

Got it fixed for £70. But spent the day waiting for the police and sorting out the new glass, when i was meant to be out with the family..

Wish i could have court the t***s that did this, but they will prob get away with it:mad:

Was go'n to do the welding this weekend, but when i went to get the steel they didn't have a piece small enough for me to fit in to my car..
So that will just have to wait till next weekend now..

Had another play with the wheels. Jacked it up by the axle to keep it under load, and they tucked in quite nicely :)

I also tryed the wheel on the wrong way round to see if it gave any less poke..

Wheel the rite way round

Just made the first section to be welded in. But it is raining now and need to go out in a bit, so it will have to wait till tomorrow ...

Good fight going on with this K11 , keep it up! :)

I´ve welded a dozen datsuns and nissans back to life (including that blackmask K11 i use as a daily driver for this winter), it can be boring sometimes but pays the price at the end for sure!

This was a pain of a job to do with the car on the ground tbh.
Just hope it is all good for the M.O.T in feb now!

No more whole:)
Welding wasn't the neatest tbh, but it was solid enough to be hit with a hammer and not budge..
Put plenty of underseale on it to keep it rust free..
lets just hope the M,O,T man is happy with it..

Hope it isn't as bad as mine was dude!

Not yet , has started around the hole what has been made for rust protection use....and now the hole is a bit bigger :p

Would be best to repair as fast as possible because of the salt they put to roads here now. But i don´t know when i´ll have the time for it :(

I am about to do my rocker cover like yours, couple of questions for you.

Did you mask the writing or just sand it down after painting?
What allen bolts did you use, the OEM screwsa are a bit too manky to reuse.
I used masking tape. But if i were to do it again, i would just sand after painting. Looks a lot simpler, and saves time..
Not sure about the bolts tho. Got loads of them from building bikes. I think they are about 25mm long, but cant remember the thread size sorry..

Thanks, will paint and sand back then. Anyone else know a suitable bolt ?

Got a new steering wheel in the week.. Looks a bit tatty, but is a lot nicer to hold than the mountney..
Hoping to make a new back box for it this month. Got two weeks off for xmas, so will try to sort it then.

Failed:(
Needs a new front cross member and a repair on the inner sill...

Just need to price it up and decide whether to fix or just get a new micra...

nice another person from north wales!

on another note, reguarding the welding, i suppose it depends on what its going to cost to fix :/
sometimes its better to cut your losses and start again on something better

I have got my eye on a couple of other micras. But it would brake my hart to scrap it:(
Where about in north wales are you??

in in kinmel bay mate not to far from you..

from experience usually when rust start good you onto a loosing battle! which is a shame, if you pay to get what needs doing on the mot done you may then find something else, and then something else, you might get another year out of it.. but then chances are your likely gonna be paying out for welding again

Well it wont be the first time it has been welded.. This will be the 3rd time i have had the cross member welded.
So the plan was to do it properly and start replacing whole panels instead of just putting in patches. But i just don't have time to do that my self atm.
