I have a 2005 K12. The drivers side window has stopped operating. The motor makes a slight noise when I press the switch in the upward direction, but not down. Just to complicate things, it does this every so often then works fine provided I press the switch at its outermost side only. A switch fault, rather than a motor fault? Any ideas?

Sounds like. Not saying for sure though a loose connection corroded connection?
Perhaps the door inside could have water or humidity build-up. causing intermittent problem.
Or lastly a bad wire in the door loom..
Also as you have said might be just a bad or burned motor?
I'm doing my passenger side as soon as it arrives. On my blog I have listed a video showing how to remove the door card.
