Whos up for a meet? South/East

BAH HUMBUG. My deputy head teacher is rubbish. I'm going to be in school on Saturday creating a new PSHE policy and sifting through several years of old PSHE worksheets, books and 80s videos that no longer work!!!! This means my only day of rest and chance to mark/go to the gym is now Sunday.

I'm well bummed! I was really looking forward to meeting everyone and making an @*$e of myself playing bowling - at which I am also hopeless!!!!!

Sigh.

:(

Aww that's a shame, are they paying you overtime?

I'm sure there'll be another meet soon, I'll go round Ollie's house and persuade him! lol

I don't need much persuading for a meet at Thurrock although not 100% sure on whether ill be meeting you at the services for this one as i'll be working on the car....................

all being well i shud still be goin though but im not too sure bout the bowling, swimming etc, was jus goin for a general car meet really; if anything il stay for abit then leave you lot to it

hopfly see you all then

11:30am: Given up trying to clean the car. Be there in a bit ;)

*Some time later*

Bunch of gays you are! There's me sat in the car park on my own with about 50 Fiestas looking at me confused. Day was only brightened by one other Micra turning up :p

So come on, let's hear your excuses?

I had extra time and penalties so felt in no mood to be driving all that way - surprised nobody else made it though!

It was predictable this was going to be a failure. Lots of people dropped out the past few days, and there were no definite answers about what we were gonna do, apart from hang around in a car park and look dodgey!

Photos of the Thurrock 'meet'.

There's nothing quite like the sense of belonging that club membership brings.

Everyone else sucks. It's official.

That's exactly the spot I parked in the night before on my way back from Luton, and I took a wrong turn up the A13 and got caught up in a massive cruise on a roundabout! :suspect:

Back to yesterday, unforseen circumstances left me with £5 fuel in my tank and no money and I had 2 options:
1) Go to the meet and not have enough petrol to get home
2) Go to my uncles to do some website work and earn an extra £80 for petrol this week at work.

Sorry but that's just the way things panned out, nothing I could do about it.

Next time a meet should be fully organised before the date, with a place to go and things to do, with definate yes'es.

James.

well i was never a defeinte. plus be the only one at home left me with 3 fish tanks, two rabbit cages, parrot cage and a hamster cage to clean out. then had to work out how to use a washing machine.

would people be up for a meet in guildford if things were a little more organised?

Yeah maybe. Looks a bit of a trek for me, especially if the turnout is anything like Sunday. Very disappointed people couldn't pull their finger out for this. At the very least people could have posted to say they weren't coming and we could have called it off until everyone is available.

Its a shame MSC meets used to be massive some 5 years ago. All the recent ones are hopeless. I honesly think that unless people are going to commit to them they shouldn't bother wasting peoples time in the topics discussing them. Perhaps its just the South lot cannot be bothered. The r/r day I tried to organise was equally a waste of time.

There have been some really successful ones in recent times. Portsmouth was quite large and a good day out. Guildford was great fun too. I don't recall you being at either Ed! lol.

I'm quite sure if there were plans to go bowling or do something fun, the meet planned in this thread would have worked out, but not many people wanna just stand around in a cold november freezing there wotsits off!

I've not been at them, but then I never said or suggested I would attend. A perfect example however is the decline of santapod style events that were once very popular. Its been a very long time since there was a large one of those

I agree Ed, but people are getting tired of turning up to a car park full of bog standard Cars with few bolt on's. There need to be at least one pro tuner there to make people interested.

Just out of interest what would be regarded as a good turnout?

I would love to see if we could manage at record breaking meet in UK, who know maybe even a guiness book entry!

the trouble it's nothing to do with the club, or the meets arranged, it's people are too lazy to get off there arse and go anywhere these days. You constantly read on here 'it's too far away' (picking up parts, going to meets etc), which is a shame.

I don't agree with that really. It's always nice to see a heavily modified or tuned up car but i go to the meets to socialise & have a laugh. That's why standing around in a car park is dull, and it looks chavvy. That's why Guildford, Portsmouth, Brighton and others have been great - as they've been fun.

There are plenty of other places, such as Santa pod, Donny, where you can just park them up and check them all out, without looking out of place!

I know you've disabled the official links to the meet pics Arnie but I have to show people what the meets could be like, so here's links to image lists:

(removed by arnold) :p

Both these meets included bowling and food :)

I've removed the link as directory viewing will soon be restricted, however, all the galleries will be available very soon :)

Hurry up :p

And to restrict directory listings, just create a file called ".htaccess" in the main directory and add:
Code:
Options -Indexes
to it!

Cheers dude. I've got them in my pixaria directories although slightly different coding to that.

You've missed some of the good ones Speed. You can't say they're a waste of time, as you weren't there! I think one of my favorites has to be Ice skating in Guildford, and Brighton when there was a convoy cruising through the city. You, fox, tom, me & several others.

The MSC has a load of younger members now, if you want a successful meet have a race day at a track somewhere as that appeals to us kids. It'll also be a way to see what mods improve performance etc.

That's why there are national meets at Santa Pod for that, but as Ed said above, there's been far less people going to those than in the past.

The venue & organisation is the same, the only thing different is the members! It's you guys that makes meets successful

aye the last good meet was that brighton one for me, good times!

Hahahaha! I'm a teacher! We don't get overtime! Hahahahaha!!!! :grinning: (Although that said we do get nearly 3 months of paid holiday *rock*)

Oh no! Now I feel awful! I was so looking forward to it as well and only 2 people turned up? That's crap! I should have sacrificed my marking for the meet! I'd have got the sack but who cares!

Right Ollie. C'mon then. Let's have another meet! Maybe one where people have to pay a deposit or something? That always ties people in for sure :grinning:

Any day but Monday is just fine for me!!!!! People near Hertford fancy going for bevvies or something? Rope in non-club people to boost the numbers and act as insurance against people dropping out. And hey - this ALWAYS happens. It's human nature. I have been social secretary for umpteen different things and you're guaranteed that people get a severe case of the can't-be-bothereds as soon as you get within a week. Just gotta shrug and smile and get on with it!

Right then. Where and when's the next meet? After New Year?

After New Year would be prefereable for me, 2 week, 3000 mile road trip in the USA in December, then Christmas, then New Year, then my birthday! What a month and half i've got! lol

I was thinking about Ice Skating again. Guildford was class last time.

How's that sound for after Christmas time?

Also thinking about another one in Brighton around April/May time?
That was the venue of my first meet and have made good friends, James, Alan, Ems, Welly, NeX, to name a few.

Would also like to organize a more centralized one if this would interest people from the SW? Somewhere like Southampton or Portsmouth?

We have an excellent community here, it's not a club, it's a community! Think we all need to get ourselves together!

Dunno! lol. I'm not very good with dates!

Ice skating would be great. Would be well up for that again

Actually mate James Birthday is on the 12th, Alienfishs' on the 13th!

Will look into it at some point. Probably go for a Sunday (for welly), but that can clash with the hockey season!

but that can clash with the hockey season!

I know, i used to be the one telling you that :p

Fixtures are published on the Guildford Flames website so a meet can be organised around that. I quite fancy Go Karting in Crawley as an alternative.

What about karting in Tamworth with some of the midlanders?

If you looked, it's not going to be until after christmas anyway, nobody has money at this time of the year :)

Sorry, i did read it but thought it said this side of christmas. Could always go if Ems fancies the drive up. Wont get my car back till Jan/Feb time.
