Tappets question ??

haynes manual ,chapter 2, page 2A.5 section 5 valve clearance :glance: even got pics :p real godsend them books

ta, ive got a manual, will check it out, hopefully its not too hard a job

also to uk micra owners, how many miles roughly should i be getting for every 10 pounds of petrol i put in, if its tuned correctly ?? mine is a 1.0 1994 model, m reg

100+ easly on a 1.0L i get 240 maybe abit more on £20 of fuel and thats around town just driving local. thats in a 1.3. all depends how you drive it realy

well theres something wrong with mine somewhere like, i get about 130 - 140 on 20quid ? any suggestions, all i have on is a k+n panel filter at the moment.

nicknacknu

if your tailpipe is sooty on the inside, i,de say throttle body or lambda problem ! also tyre pressures can affect your mpg

The tail pipe will always be sooty. Even if the engine is running perfectly.

Nicknacknu, your MPG is about 32 which isnt too bad and probably normal, 100miles for £10 its 45mpg. 240 miles for £20 is around 51mpg, and is way above normal. Thats real granny driving!!

Thats real granny driving ? dont think so. its called respectable driving i dont drive about every where i go thrashing the car to bits. some people can drive some cant

im pretty sure i dont get 100 miles for every £10 i put in. i dont drive around revving like a boy racer so im guessing it probably needs a tune up/ servicing

try filling it up or just put £20 in it see how it goes. cos i seem to get more if the needle is above the half way mark than i would when its below the half way mark

I drive mine hard, redline on every gear change, and get 110 to £10 round town. I do better on the motorway.
My car is running rich and I get thick black soot at the tailpipe.

Ok slight exagerration, I don't redline on EVERY gear change but certainly at the lower gears.

When i had a micra fitted with an aftermarket airfilter the fuel consumption was bad, less than 80miles from £10, thats driving it fairly hard, i found with the standard air-box id get alot more even given it some welly. Thats why ive kept the standard air filter in place on cars ive owned since.
