steering wheel removal

hey guys i need to remove the steering wheel but how do i get the airbag off????

unplug battery, turn ign key ON to discharge the system. wait 30mins to ensure things fully discharged, turn IGN off.
remove access panels on sides of wheel, touch the chassis to remove static, unplug the two connectors. airbag is held onto the steering with two large star torx bolts

There t50 security torx, normal torx keys wont do.

I've got torx bits that go on to ratchets and torx keys ?

Security torx bits have a hole drilled into them... the bolt you need to remove has a pin in the centre you see...

To remove mine i just used mole grips any brute force be carefull not to damage the surrounding plastic

Should have said mate leave the steering wheel retaining nut loose on the spline, so when you pulling it toward you you dont lose any teeth!

Thought i'd hijack this thread instead of making a new one, I've just got the wheel off but when fitting the boss what happens to the air bag slip ring? Need to have some kind of contact for the horn am I right?

The steering column is the contact, you can splice the brown and green wire that join the back off the slip ring too make the spade connection.
